THE 2010 VOLKSWAGEN Jetta V update arrives in showrooms today, featuring new petrol and diesel engine options.

The range starts with the 1.6 litre 77TDI diesel engine (launched with the Golf VI in August), producing 77kW, 250Nm of torque and featuring a fuel consumption figure of 4.9 l/100km.

The 1.6 77TDI is available with a five-speed manual transmission, or the new seven-speed DSG.

The second new diesel engine is the 2.0 litre 125TDI, with 125kW, 350Nm of torque and a fuel economy rating of 5.9 l/100km.

Volkswagen claims the 125TDI Jetta will reach 100km/h in 8.5 seconds with the six-speed DSG - the only transmission offered with the 2.0 litre 125TDI engine.

The previous 2.0 litre 103TDI remains on the 2010 engine list, using 6.0 litres of fuel per 100km and producing 103kW and 320Nm of torque.

The 103TDI is available with a six-speed DSG transmission only.

Petrol engines include the 2.0 litre TSI, developing 147kW and consuming 7.8 litres per 100km. The 147TSI is offered with the six-speed DSG transmission as standard.

The 1.4 litre 118TSI develops 118kW and 240Nm of torque, with a fuel economy rating of 6.6 l/100km.

The 118TSI is available with either Volkswagen's new seven-speed DSG, or a six-speed manual transmission.

New features for 2010 include parking distance sensors in the front and rear, and the Optical Parking System as standard across the range.

But how far away is the Golf VI variant for World / Aus?

No 2.0TDI manual? Wtf!? VW Aus really are hating manual drivers. What is some of us actually want a sporty, fully-controlled drive? Nup, sorry we can't have it! That really is poor. I'll go back to my Octavia thanks...

The Jetta now comes with competitive pricing, and with its new variants, should be even more popular than before.
This has got to be the best value for money car on the market.

I agree with anthony, this car poses good value especially the desiel variant, however they should give it a facelift.

But considering the fact that a new Golf is coming soon, which would be build on a new platform, this model should be phased out too, and that could be the reason why VW hasn't bothered to give it a facelift.

Jetta best value? No. The Octavia is! They're pretty much the same price but Octavia has dual-zone climate control, from foglamps and the big audio screen with touch capabilities (I'm comparing Jetta 118TSI vs Octavia 1.8TSI) whereas the Jetta comes with f/r parking sensors as standard. The Octavia was rated as number one in the Wheels Gold Star Car awards in the mid-size bracket vs the Jetta's second place spot. Otherwise, they're equal (apart from the Jetta being made in Mexico...that's the advantage with Skodas - they're actually European made!) in that they're both great cars, and mid-size leaders.
