Well not quite powerless. The owner of the Evo X GSR eventually managed to get his dealership to fix the broken pedal - even after Mitsubishi refused to honour the warranty - but what’s most concerning about this story is that the pedal managed to break off in the first case.
This is the first such instance of a pedal failure in an Evolution X that we’ve heard of, and considering that the press usually like to thoroughly abuse test new models when they come out we should have heard of this happening before if it were a common defect. Instead it appears that this pedal failure was an isolated incident, and one that Mitsubishi will be investigating.
Of all the pedals we would have thought the accelerator would be under the least stress, but perhaps injection-moulded plastic isn’t the most appropriate material for a pedal assembly after all? More pics below.

Perfect pic. Almost poetic. I wonder if the pedal’s made it to Ebay yet…
Looks like Die-cast aluminium to me, strange to break though
No pedal should ever brake off.. period. Shame on Mitsubishi of America for not honoring defect.
I was just looking into an Evo X to..
Mitsubishi refuses to warranty it? Not surprised here. Next time I go in and talk to a salesman, I’ll ask if they’ll take 6 or 7 grand off due to warranty being voided after driving an Evo off the lot.
‘no pedal should ever brake off’.
definitely! especially not the brake pedal!!
