Our U.K. based Alfisti friends are in for a treat with the news that Prodrive will be releasing a fettled version of the Alfa Romeo Brera coupe – for British market consumption only.

Its been twelve years since Prodrive last worked with the Alfa product when they campaigned two factory-built Alfa 155’s in the 1995 British Touring Car Championship.

In the styling department the Brera S is already a winner and when combined with Prodrive’s prodigious experience in suspension tuning this is potentially (8C Competizione aside) the ultimate modern Alfa.

Prodrive will be enhancing 500 of the 2.2 JTS and 3.2 V6 Brera coupe models, each will be individually numbered. The focus will be centred on suspension tuning, weight reduction and aerodynamic enhancements along with revisions to the interior. Aesthetically, the Brera S is expected to receive some trick new 19 inch alloys and no-doubt some well placed badges to set it apart from the ‘run-of-the-mill’ Brera S.

The partnering of Alfa Romeo with Prodrive to produce the limited run Brera S has in the words of Prodrive Project Leader, Peter Cambridge “built on the existing model’s capabilities to deliver outstanding driver feedback and handling.”

Mechanically the Brera S is expected to remain untouched, with the Alfa Romeo four and six-cylinders keeping their factory standard tune.

Full details are expected to be made available at the official launch on May 19.
