SKODA AUTO HAS begun rolling the estate version of the well-received Superb off its production line in the Czech Republic.
The Superb Estate forgoes the Superb’s innovative TwinDoor rear hatch system, replacing it with a capacious wagon rear end.
The Estate can accommodate 633 litres of cargo with its rear seats up - 68 litres more than the hatch - and a huge 1865 litres with the rear seats folded down.
A power-operated tailgate is an option, and the Estate’s longer roof means a panoramic sunroof is available. Features like the Superb hatch’s auto-parking Park Assist system will carry over.
Engine specifications for the European market mirror those of the hatch, meaning a range of three thrifty diesels and three petrol engines are offered. The 191kW AWD V6 3.6 FSI variant will be the flagship model in the Estate range.
A Skoda Australia spokesperson told TMR that the Superb Estate is slated to arrive in local showrooms in the second quarter of next year, however specification and pricing won’t be announced until it launches.

Fantastic car! Possibly even better than the hatch too (which comes with a 3.6, not 3.2 :P).
Skoda will have a success on their hands with this car, it’s better than a Sportwagon!
Thanks for pointing out the error Jake02.
This machine makes US-sub branch fleet cars redundant. An excellent family machine for our times.
vfacts shows that skoda is selling to .3% of the market, they will be lucky to be here in 12 months let alone encroching on GMs 13.8% market share.
The only thing that makes cars redundant is when people stop buying them, .3% means people have stopped buying them!!
Jake02: Skoda will have a success on their hands with this car, it’s better than a Sportwagon!
Thanks Jake02 - After the day I’ve had I needed a laugh
Glad I could help Wheelnut. It’s just such a shame that you don’t know what sophistication is (eg a Skoda compared to a Commodore). The Superb wagon will be a much better car than the Sportwagon, end of story. I suggest to you to go and drive one in May, which is when the first Aus-models arrive.
A car has to be appealing/attractive enough to make the prospective buyer want to have a closer look or a subsequent teat drive.. Unfortunately the Skoda is nowhere near as good looking as the Sportwagon..
Then there’s: price performance and value for money etc which IMHO the Skoda loses to its rivals - not just the Holden
Not only that but there’s the problem of finding a Skoda dealer that is within the same distance as my local Holden dealer
“Unfortunately the Skoda is nowhere near as good looking as the Sportwagon..”
- that’s just your opinion, and doesn’t translate into the opinion voiced by the general public. Don’t make me go into interior space or quality either…
“Then there’s: price performance and value for money etc which IMHO the Skoda loses to its rivals - not just the Holden.”
- The base Superb saloon Ambition 1.8TSI ($39,990), even without leather, is better equipped than even a Berlina or non-V Calais Commodore, not to mention its true rivals (Passat, Laguna, 407 etc). Look up the spec sheets on the Skoda Aus website for proof and then compare to the others.
“Not only that but there’s the problem of finding a Skoda dealer that is within the same distance as my local Holden dealer”
- that’s a totally unfair comparison. Yes I know Skoda should have more dealers, but they’ve been here less than 3 years, and they’re getting more. I think they know that having less but more useful dealers is better than having more but less useful dealers. Holden is Australia’s car and has been since the 20s, so you’d hope/expect them to have a tonne of dealers everywhere! That doesn’t excuse the negatives about the current Commodore range though…
Skoda will get there one-day, even if pessimistic people like you are still in the way. I’m a Skoda fanboy just as much as you’re a Holden fanboy, meaning I will defend mine just as much as yours.
“A car has to be appealing/attractive enough to make the prospective buyer want to have a closer look or a subsequent teat drive.. Unfortunately the Skoda is nowhere near as good looking as the Sportwagon…”
The Skoda Superb is significantly better looking then the Sportwagon, thats why unlike the holden it is successfully sold around the world!!
“Then there’s: price performance and value for money etc which IMHO the Skoda loses to its rivals - not just the Holden”
Untrue, since the Skoda Superb won this year’s Best large best drive/best value on this very site!! And so far has beaten a holden in every comparo around australia!!
“Not only that but there’s the problem of finding a Skoda dealer that is within the same distance as my local Holden dealer”
LOL, So you buying cars now wheelnut, depending on how far the dealers reside from you??
All of that from you Tomas and the thing that truly determines the Skodas true popularity “sales” are poor………..cant surely be the fact its got a face only a mother could love
Not True Bavarian Missile,
Skoda Superb is a World Wide Sales Success!!
Only in Australia where the large car is saturated with cheap large fleet cars, Skoda is taking it’s time to grow!!
Overseas it’s ussualy comended for it’s beautiful looks.
World wide success………..mmmmmmmmmm
We are talking Australia here Tomas, well you were actually, and lets not forget where you mention the Skoda is TMRs best large car for 2009 ,you failed on the runner up being the Commodore….so the local product cant be as bad as your making out ,now can it ?
Taking time to grow you say…………how long do you give it ? Given the sales success of the Great Wall, thats been here for how long ?
Overseas you say love its looks………who ?
The local jernos and thats what we are discussing here ,refer to its awkward styling and thats being kind.
“World wide success………..mmmmmmmmmm”
- that part is actually true. Skoda sold 700,000 cars worldwide last year, and I reckon that’s pretty fine, especially in the GFC.
“Overseas you say love its looks………who ?”
- no-one thinks it’s beautiful (apart from it winning the Finland ‘Most Beautiful Car 2009 award) but it’s better than what you lot claim it to be. The Wagon is fine-looking and much less controversial than the Saloon.
“Taking time to grow you say…………how long do you give it? Given the sales success of the Great Wall, that’s been here for how long?”
- Why do you lot think they predicted instant success? I just don’t get this part. No-one from either Skoda or VW Aus said “We’re gonna sell 1000 cars a month this coming month” when they were released. Strange…Great Walls are no-nonsense workhorses that are popular in the country because they are cheap and accidents aren’t as common in the country (meaning safety isn’t paramount like it is in cars, and in the city). Buying cars isn’t as easy.
Oh and FYI the Superb isn’t Skoda’s best-seller anywhere (Octavia does that) so why would that make sales like they currently are (eg around 120-130 a month, but improving) ?
Jake, Tomas was referring to Australia when discussing the Skoda as I pointed out.
No one is saying its a bad car under that ugly facade.
The truth is Australian’s arent embracing it like you wish. I doubt they ever will and it will die a slow death
No Bavarian Missile We are talking world wide, as per “World Wide Sales Success!!” After all Australia’s market is tinny in comparisons and over saturated with cheap and nasty large fleet cars…
“Overseas you say love its looks………who ?”
Sites such as Fifth Gear “+ Stylish exterior and interior”
“The local jernos and thats what we are discussing here ,refer to its awkward styling and thats being kind.”
No, they find it polarising, a lot of them love the looks!!
“Make all the excuses you like for the poor sales of the Skoda but the truth is Australian’s arent embracing it like you wish. I doubt they ever will and it will die a slow death ”
Actully the sales are getting better and better, and the estate and many other models haven’t been even released yet!!
As it says in the heading; the article is about the 2010 Skoda; and when it is due to be released in AUSTRALIA.
Tomas: “The Skoda Superb is significantly better looking then the Sportwagon, thats why unlike the holden it is successfully sold around the world!!”
The way a car looks doesn’t determine where its sold throughout the world.. t the car manufacturer or its parent company does that
Because there are a number of cars from around the world but aren’t available in Australia because the parent company doesn’t think its worth it - even though a number of Aussie car enthusiasts who would love one in their drive way
The problem with Skoda is that it in the VAG Hierarchy it sits below VW and Audi - yet their cars are almost the same price as a VW or Audi.. which IMHO is like asking someone to pay the same price as a Lexus for a Corolla.
So whilst it may be a good car there are a number of better options available for the same or similar money with morer features etc - even from within its own family
BTW If sales have been improving in AUSTRALIA why do they still only have a handful of dealerships?.
