WITH LESS THAN a month until the Los Angeles Auto Show, Porsche has unveiled its new lightweight 2010 Boxster Spyder.
Porsche has shaved 80kg from the Boxster’s weight and increased the 3.4 litre boxer six’s output by about 8kW, making for a 1275kg, 240kW weapon.
According to Porsche, the Spyder will reach 100km/h in 4.8 seconds, power sent to the wheels via Porsche’s seven-speed PDK dual clutch transmission.
Inspired by the 550 Spyder and 356 Speedster, the new Boxster Spyder has been designed specifically for open-air driving.
However, the Spyder does have a soft-top roof for wet weather, designed to deliver a sleek, low-slung look which Porsche says is reminiscent of the Carrera GT.
The unveiling of the Boxster Spyder follows spy photos obtained in September of a test car wearing the standard Boxster bumpers and a camouflaged cowl behind the seats.
The Boxster Spyder goes on sale in Europe in February next year, starting from AU$81,250.
