SUBARU AUSTRALIA has today announced the launch of the 2010 Subaru Outback 2.0D, its first ever diesel offering, available now and starting at $40,490.
Powered by a 2.0 litre common-rail turbocharged four-cylinder diesel boxer engine developing 110kW and 350Nm of torque, the Liberty Outback 2.0D is listed with a fuel economy of 6.4 l/100km.
Paired with a six-speed manual transmission - the only transmission offered with Subaru’s diesel engine - the Outback 2.0D’s peak power is available at 3600rpm, torque available between 1800-2400rpm.
According to Subaru, local tests have seen the Outback 2.0D achieve distances greater than 1100km on one tank of diesel.

“We estimate that driving 25,000 kilometres a year at $90 per tank of diesel would save approximately $2500 over 20 months on an equivalent petrol car,” Nick Senior, Managing Director for Subaru Australia said.

The full Liberty and Outback range has been awarded a 5-Star ANCAP crash safety rating, with a 3-Star pedestrian safety rating.
Vehicle Dynamics Control, Subaru’s electronic stability program, is standard across the range.

Other safety features include ABS anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, and Curtain, Driver’s, Driver’s knee, dual front and side airbags.

That is even uglier than the Liberty Sedan :O
Just bought my diesel Outback (4/11/09 in West Australia). Ordered back in Feb 2009 purely on UK reports of how good the engine was. This is indeed a fantastic car. Take-off as many say takes abit of getting used to with what seems a little shy on oomph at low revs, but after that, I love love love this car. So well built, so powerful, quiet, smooth and excellent quality. And economy is awesome. Already likely to have 1200km on the first tank!!! Well done Subaru. Indeed you deserve best SUV award of the year as received in USA recently. I highly recommend you go for a test drive. Love it !!
