TOYOTA SAYS ITS Hybrid Camry, due to go on sale in February next year, will be quieter, more powerful and better handling than the regular Camry.
New images released today reveal a sportier front bumper, which Toyota says contributes to styling that is both “progressive” and, in the case of its drag coefficient, “more aerodynamic”.
Along with the new images, Toyota Australia has released a few morsels of information in the lead-up to the car’s full-scale production kicking off next month.
With its engineers involved in overseas development of the new hybrid’s platform, Toyota Australia says the Hybrid Camry features suspension and steering tuned specifically for the local market.
According to the carmaker’s latest tests, the Hybrid Camry is expected to use up to 30 percent less fuel than the regular petrol Camry, which lists an official fuel economy of 8.8 l/100km.
Technology unique to the carmaker’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system has been developed to link on-board components, designed to enhance driving enjoyment and safety.
Toyota recently offered a glimpse at the Hybrid Camry’s instrument cluster, showing a Hybrid Synergy Drive display and a green “ready” light that indicates when the hybrid’s electric motor is on.
Like the Prius, the Hybrid Camry has been developed to run on either electric power alone, petrol alone, or in a combined mode.

All this development for a car that already exists????
Why has it taken Toyota Aus so long if they’ve had this avail in the US for years now! I had even seen a few imported in Europe!

Yeah, all cars should just be able to go in a forward direction - no need for reverse or parking is there?
No Steve E, I wrote that because What does the B stand? Could it be that the car would run only on Battery? There are no details so here we can wonder and question what it would be =)
B for Bad Drivers: Stronger stability control. Lol
I believe that B is for Brake as in Engine Braking. When the batteries are full you can use this function for downhill speed control rather than the regen braking system. A bit like a 4×4 hill descent function but for the road.
It is indeed Brake, but it does run from the regenerative braking system. It is just more agressive and collects more power. It’s really quite handy, I’ve sampled it in a Prius.
