Now that the Lancer Evolution X GSR and Impreza STI are known quantities, Mitsubishi and Subaru are—as you’d expect—readying the next step of each car for production. Balancing power upgrades, aerodynamic improvements, and—in the STI’s case—weight reduction, the two new options should prove to be a tasty option for genuine enthusiasts.
Subaru have, as with the previous model, once again put the STI on a diet in developing the latest Impreza WRX STI Spec C variant. While offering an only slightly updated body kit (including a roof scoop, indicating a likely lack of air conditioning) and keeping the power improvements to a minimum, the weight reduction side of things will include a lighter roof, an aluminium boot lid, a more compact battery, smaller track-dedicated fuel tank, and thinner glass in the windows. Wow, they’ve really covered everything.
Subaru say that all of this will result in a shedding of around 70kgs, which depending on how you look at it, is like driving the resulting 1360kg car without anyone in it.
The Evo X MR—which we reported recently as possibly being in Australia as we speak—will feature a slightly revised face with extra ventilation and an updated intake. Also included will be an alternate rear wing, side skirts, and blackened wheels; which of course are automotian for “badass”. Power has been jacked up by a not inconsiderable 15kw to 227kw, and low-end torque enhanced so as to allow a 0-100kmh sprint in under 5 seconds.
The Lancer Evolution X MR is equipped with the flappy paddled SST transmission only—which we gave you an insight into recently.

By the way..the Evo X MR was on display at the Perth Motor Show last weekend, and what a damn nice car it is! I sat in the STI and didnt feel the prestige of what is meant to be a good car, yet the VRX (not even the Evo) put a smile on my dial! Anyway, Evo all the way!
