GREAT WALL MOTORS has today announced that its X240 SUV is now available in Australia, starting from $23,990 driveaway.

The GWM X240, a ‘badge engineered’ right-hand-drive version of the Chinese-market Hover crossover, joins the carmaker’s V240 and SA220 medium-duty commercial utes.

A five-speed manual gearbox is fitted as standard, mated to a 2.4 litre petrol four developing 100kW at 5250rpm and 200Nm of torque between 2500 to 3000rpm.

Fuel consumption is rated at 10.4 l/100km on the combined cycle.

Disc brakes feature at all four corners, behind 17×7.0-inch wheels shod with 235/65 R17 tyres.

For safety, the X240 offers dual front airbags, ABS brakes, electronic brake-force distribution and rear parking sensors.

Electronic stability control is not offered, but will likely be added in time for the Australian Federal Government’s mandated ESC requirements in 2011.

Air conditioning, electric driver’s seat, leather-trimmed seats, power steering, central locking and an eight-speaker CD/MP3 sound system figure among the X240’s standard features.

A sunroof makes up the only optional extra, available for $1000.

Spearheading GWM’s passenger car offerings in Australia, the X240 is set to be joined by a version of the Chinese-market Florid five-door small car by the end of this year.

I’m proud of Great Wall. Seen one on the road already.
Now that means 1 dumb buyer or 1 historical achievement…

Crikey! so with a 2.4l whats the power to weight ratio like? not to mention fuel efficiency goes out the window when you will need to flog the little engine’s guts out

Probably a relatively tough vehicle given its Toyota/Isuzu underpinnings. So cheap too. Hope it does alright.

These negatives comment must be from dealers selling other products knowing that Great Wall technology is better than theirs yet its priced far better. Try it before you bag it.

So cheap, and with only 100kW….. It looks like a 1600-1800kg machine… Forget climbing mountains, all downhill driving only.. lol

At $24k, I’d rather buy an equivalent from Hyundai for a few bucks more, DSC, better NCAP and Australia wide support..

best most of the guys on here couldnt afford one in the first place and are driving around in the usuall heaps of rust with no airbags ah envy is a sad thing

Wardski,
Did you know that this suv scored a 4-star Euro-ncap? Not bad for a Chinese made suv. Comes with leather seats and 8 SPEAKERS as standard, & way better looking than the pig-like Tucson. For under 25k, definitely better than the Tucson, kid…
