2011 BMW X3 Spied

DEVELOPMENT OF THE 2011 BMW X3 is rumoured to be gathering pace. BMW is reportedly keen to bring its mid-strength crossover to market quickly to steal a march on the Mercedes-Benz GLK and Audi Q5.

Although this prototype still wears BMW’s trademark form-concealing camouflage, we can at least see the headlamps and lower bumper. The cutlines suggest expanded cabin dimensions, and from what can be discerned, styling may be a little more muscular and X5-like than the current model.

Powertrains are expected to carry over unchanged, and Australia-bound models will likely feature the same two diesel and two petrol engines as used by the current model. A hybrid is reportedly in the works, but has yet to be confirmed.

Expect to see the new X3 go on sale in Europe sometime in the latter half of 2010, with local sales commencing sometime after.

That camoflage really does work very well! There looks to be a few similarities to the new X1 - no bad thing in my view. The X1 isn’t exactly a beauty, but it’s not the ugly duckling the X3 is.

Still waiting to find out the X1 prices for Australia though…… anyone know?

Looks too small, and because of this will probably be rubbing shoulders with the X1. This is what I feared when the X1 was released. Also, it competes with the Audi Q5, not A5.

This vehicle will now have an easier time of it since Mercedes have confirmed that they will not be bringing the GLK to Oz.
