MERCEDES-BENZ HAS TODAY announced the updated 2009 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, available in Australia from October.

Priced from $214,900 (before on-road costs) and offering the same six choices of petrol and diesel engines as the pre-update range, the 2009 S-Class achieves fuel savings of up to seven percent over the former models.

Fuel economy gains have come through aerodynamic fine-tuning and the use of lower rolling-resistance tyres, steering modifications, and updates to the fuel pump and 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission.

The 2009 S-Class is available with five petrol engines - including six, eight and twelve cylinder variants - and one turbo-diesel V6.

The most fuel-efficient model in the range, the diesel-engined 173kW S 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, lists an official fuel consumption figure of 7.7 l/100km and CO2 emissions of 202g/km.

The S-Class offers a choice of three three petrol engines: the 200kW 3.5 litre six-cylinder S 350, the 285kW 5.5 litre eight-cylinder S 500 and the flagship 380kW twelve-cylinder twin-turbo S 600, which Mercedes-Benz claims will hit 100km/h in just 4.6 seconds.

On the Mercedes-AMG front, the S 63 AMG is powered by a 6.2 litre 386kW V8, while the S 65 makes do with a thumping 450kW twelve-cylinder displacing 6.0 litres.

Advanced safety features for the 2009 S-Class include the Night View Assist Plus system, which uses an infrared camera to detect pedestrians and other obstacles on the road ahead.

Lane Keeping Assist recognises lane markings, vibrating the steering wheel if the vehicle is detected leaving the lane unintentionally.

Attention Assist uses a variety of sensors and over 70 parameters to determine if a driver is in danger of losing consciousness, analysing the driver’s personal driving style, the length of the trip being taken and the time of the day.

Looks a little confused to me…

Bugger the looks, it STARTS from $214k! :O

Now this is what I call epic for people with incomes >100x more than mine :)

In reply to jake02…

You’re surprised by the price? It’s the S class… Did you expect it to cost the same as a HSV?

No of course not (it’s not a C-class) but I remember a time that the base S-class was around $150k (abit better!) and also how much are 740i’s/LS460’s?

Waste of money…unless approaching a 7 figure salary or you’re a ‘gangsta’
