2011 Volkswagen Tiguan Update Spied And Previewed

Mike Stevens | Jun 3, 2010

Although a mild facelift for the Tiguan was revealed at last year's Chinese Motor Show, a proper global update for the current generation Tiguan is not expected to arrive until early next year.

Spy photos published late last year revealed a Chinese-market Tiguan update in testing, although few changes were visible beneath the test car's camouflage.

New images obtained this week reveal that a more extensive update is due for the international 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan, and with almost all of Volkswagen's line-up now featuring its new family face, there is little guesswork left in imagining the updated Tiguan's styling.

As shown on our speculative rendering (top of article), the updated Tiguan will likely bear similar headlight styling to the Scirocco, Golf VI, Polo V, Touareg and the updated Phaeton.

An updated engine range is likely, focusing on compliance with the strict new Euro V emissions laws. An e-mobility version of the Tiguan is also expected, although this is more likely to appear with an all-new Tiguan around 2013 or 2014.

I like the Tiguan but funnily enough the front end has always been a bit of a miss for me. Hopefully this update will get my nod of approval.

Tiguan needs a good makeover... RCD510 standard, the passat/125kw version of the engine, better road handling, better seat angles (back seats are too straight and flat and feel pretty cheap) and the hardest would probably be to increase interior room but that'd make me love it more...

    Yep, the front looks better.

But you're right paddy, the lack of interior space - especially in the cargo area - would be a deal breaker for me.

Hey under the cladding the grille isn't the straight line affair that is on the Golf, Polo and Touareg. Isn't that the main design feature of VWs now, and won't it not fit in with the rest of the range if it doesn't have it?

The 2011 Tiguan will be released in Australia in around 3 to 4 months. They have added a couple of colours to the range but removed 2, one of them being the blue. The auto will be a 7 speed similar if not the same as the Audi auto. Will also have the option of a 30gig hard drive to store your music plus the blue tooth will be a proper hands free system unlike what is avaliable now.
