PORSCHE HAS YET to confirm plans for topless or two-door versions of its Panamera supersaloon, but with 14 variants of the 911 on offer, Porsche is no stranger to diversification.

If Porsche does decide to expand the Panamera range, the first is likely to be a 2+2 coupe, offered in a two-door layout not only to create a sleeker profile, but also to provide a strong basis for a convertible model.

Switching to two doors will allow Porsche to build a more rigid and performance-oriented cabriolet version of the Panamera.

To keep weight down on the already bulky Panamera, a folding soft-top rather than a retractable hard-top.

In 2010 the range will gain new engine options, with the German supercar manufacturer adding V6 and petrol-electric hybrid engines to the mix, and - according to Autocar - a diesel engine, to be joined later by a GTS range-topping flagship.

Autocar reports that, when asked, a senior executive at Porsche said: “There are V6 and V8 diesels within the Volkswagen Group that could be used as a basis [for a diesel Panamera].”
