MAZDA ANNOUNCED TODAY that production of the Mazda2 has begun in Thailand, joining existing lines in Japan, China and Colombia.
The photos accompanying the release, although carrying no explanatory words, reveal small but significant cosmetic updates to the 2010 Mazda2.
Adopting the styling language now found on the Mazda6, Mazda3, RX-8, MX-5, CX-7 and CX-9, the new Mazda2 gets the same five-point ’smile’ lower grille and large, vertical foglight housings.
The upper grille has been updated, featuring a slimmer design top to bottom, extending downward in the centre to accommodate the Mazda badge.
Mazda has not released any information on the facelifted Mazda2’s availability.We will update this article when more information can be obtained.

I don’t like the “smile” face in the new gen Mazdas. The 3 looks horrible, while the previous 3 was one of the best balanced designs in the low entry segments.
In this one, the huge fog light surround is too big, it does not match the rest of the car. Looks like the designer wanted to be agressive, but didn’t work. Same in the 3 and the 6.
I totally agree with you! The new style makes it look so tacky. The 08/09 model Mazda 2 Genki has a much meaner approach with it’s front grill being an upside down smile! Mazda what are you doing??
Yeh the smiley face doesnt do anything for me either. But chicks will love it lol
I’m the same [not liking the smiley], we have a older 2 and was in the market to upgrade it and get a 3 MPS for me, but all I can see is the movie ‘Cars’. Such a pity as Mazda were doing so great, now it’s a girl’s brand. Oh well, plenty of previous model MPS’ out there second hand!
