FOLLOWING THE LAUNCH last month of the 2010 Toyota Landcruiser Prado, Toyota Australia has today unveiled the three-door version of the Prado.

Entering the Australian market for the first time, the three-door Prado will be sold alongside the five-door model from November.

Wearing the same face as its five-door sibling, the three-door Prado sets itself apart with all-new sheet metal for the roof and rear quarter - however the rear door is shared with the five-door model.

Thanks to its shorter wheelbase, the three-door Prado may prove more appealing to off-roading enthusiasts looking for a vehicle with a higher break-over angle.

The lighter three-door Prado benefits from increased towing capacity, able to pull three tonnes (braked) - 500kg more than the five-door.

Toyota Australia’s David Buttner said the three-door Prado stands out as the ideal vehicle for couples looking for an off-roader with sporty styling and strong towing power.

“Even more than new five-door Prado, the three-door will definitely attract buyers who previously have not considered a sports utility vehicle,” Mr Buttner said.

“Specification levels will be high across three- and five-door ranges, with several flow-down technologies from Lexus and from LandCruiser 200 Series.

Each model in the Prado range is fitted with seven airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control and anti-lock brakes.

Alloy wheels and Toyota’s Smart Entry & Start are standard.

3 door!?! lol. And just last night I saw an ad for Toyota claiming they’re not ’soft’…

ROFL
HAHAHAHA

when will they learn??

What useless comments from Tony D, Type S and auto. “When will they learn?” Yeah, like you can run a global car company and like they are failing because they will sell a three door vehicle that has been available overseas for years. You all need to look harder at yourselves before proving how brainless you all are. I for one am keen on the three door as I don’t need the bigger vehicle or room and the ramp over will be excellent. So eat my dirt when I smash past you in your Getz’s….argh hahahahahahahaha

You see a lot of these sort of 4×4’s in France, especially the Pajero for some reason. Strange considering there’s even less reason to go off road over there. Still, it’s not always about the off-road capability

Because of the pumped guards it looks a bit too truncated for my liking, but it will compete with the Pajero 3 door which has proven worthy enough for Mitsu Australia to keep it on here, so there must be a worthwhile market.

this is the perfect offroader! i don’t need an eight seater… before this i had no choice but to buy the 2dr pajero or the jeep wrangler.. but now i can choose toyota which is many times more reliable than the jeep

That midget Prado looks very ugly.

can you tell me the max kg rating for the tow bar on the new Prado please

Perhaps we can guess, but what are the official/technical reasons for a 3 t tow capacity for the shortie and still only 2.5 t for the 5 door? The Pajero is now 3 t.

Also hope they have not messed with the 180 liter fuel capacity.

Unfortunatelly they did mess up the fuel tank.
It’s down to 87l on the 3 door. and 150l on the 5 door!

When are they going to release some technical Info on the three
door Prado people are not going to spend 60 -70 K just because
It’s a Toyota they want to know about the technical side of it we have seen the pictures !
