The word on the wire right now is that Honda have finally landed on an NSX that they can be happy with, and that it's set to become the flagship of the Honda and Acura lines from 2010.

We'd have seen a new NSX sooner, but the boffins at Honda got a bit of a fright at the unabashedly critical response to the most recently offered concept—the Advanced Sports Car. I quite enjoyed that design as far as concepts go, and when I look at the likes of the new Camaro, I can't help but think it could have been successful as a production model as well.

Powered by a V10 engine and running on a FR platform (engine at front, driving wheels at rear), the 2010 NSX is set to be a genuine screamer ready to take on the likes of the R35 GT-R and, if it gets there on time, the LF-A. And some of those snobby European things too. Keeping in line with that new approach, the NSX will be badged exclusively as an Acura, rather than as a plain old boring Honda.

The other good news is that the ridiculous looks of the last concept have been completely sidestepped, being replaced by a design that apparently now bears somewhat Corvette-like styling. I can only hope that they've gone above and beyond that though, as I've always thought the Corvette to be a bit on the boring side of 1995, visually.

For my money, the 2010 NSX has its work cut out for it if it's going to be hotter than the MR-based HSC concept unveiled back in 2003.
