SUBARU AUSTRALIA has confirmed that the Exiga wagon is on track for a November launch. It will be marketed not as a stand-alone model, but as an addition to the Liberty range.
Dubbed “Liberty Exiga”, the big wagon will come with six seats over three rows and be powered by a naturally-aspirated variant of Subaru’s familiar 2.5 litre boxer four.
The Exiga, built upon the same platform that underpins the new Legacy/Liberty, is currently only sold in Japan, where it’s available as a seven-seater.
Australia will be the first export market for the car, but due to local safety concerns and the unavailability of a three-point seatbelt in the centre row’s middle seat, the centre lap belt that’s fitted to Japanese Exigas will be deleted.
The Impreza’s 2.5 litre EJ25 flat four will be the only engine option from launch, paired to a CVT automatic gearbox and all-wheel-drive system.
A manual transmission won’t be offered, neither are there immediate plans to equip Australian Liberty Exiga’s with the 165kW 2.0 litre EJ20 turbo that’s available in Japan.
Cabin fit-out will be geared towards large families. To keep the tribe entertained, the base model Liberty Exiga will ship with a DVD player as standard.
A panoramic sunroof is a likely option, as are seatback-mounted stowable tray tables.
The 2010 Subaru Liberty Exiga will go on sale in Australia in November, with pricing and specification details to be announced closer to the launch.

Well, having been a subaru diehard for many years, and having owned 3 (Club Spec WRX, Outback and Liberty wagon), I am shattered that Subaru continue to produce such awful designs…
This will fail in Australia
Awful
I have seen a lot of ugly designs coming out lately from various manufacturers when there is ample opportunity for the designers to come up with something elegant. There is no excuse for the poor design. The designs should go before a panel of independent judges before they are released on the world stage.
The wheels on this one look out of proportion.
Subaru is already over priced for a japanese car, their designs are increasingly ugly, who really needs AWD (it just spends fuel), the Boxer engine is really nothing advanced over conventional in-line’s, it’s much like Mazda’s “zoom-zoom”; you can’t keep peddling the same old slogan’s to sell forever - the Brumby ute is no longer available people! And with their vehicle’s looking like the new Liberty, the Tribecca (even sounds horrid) and that excuse for a WRX nowadays, Subaru has lost a lot of loyal buyers, since other brands are getting cutting edge with their designs and marketing. Sure they’ll continue to sell cars, but that will run out. Lucky all the greenies have moved on from boxy Volvo’s to Foresters, it keeps the money in the bank
Slap on a Ssangyong badge. It deserves it. Poor effort Subaru.
my brother in law has a Liberty RX manual, which is an awesome drive with character and still manages to look reasonably sharp… this thing here is just TRIPE, along with all the new Subaru’s coming out…. subaru has lost its soul…
the Subaru brand will wither and die in Australia. At one stage we had 4 Subaru’s in my family and we loved them. Tehy looked good and tehy performed brilliantly. Now the performance jsut matches the competition, but the designs are very very bad. The Impreza hasnt looked good for 10 yeas and it at the back of the field in performance, the new Liberty and Forestoer are Ugly and then they release abominations like this and the Tribecca. Subaru needs to get someone at teh helm to completely rethink their designs. tehy need to do what jaguar have now done. Their business moel is all wrong and they will pay the price.
That’s not a pretty looking car
Subaru, please sack your design department.
Start afresh, but not forget the tradition of what made the public love Subaru.
Guys….I think this car is fantastic. When you look at other people movers in a similar category……there are not many in the market…… Honda Odyssey comes pretty close.
Are u guys comparing this car with the likes of Nissan 350Z..? Please….come up with a people mover that looks and is better to drive than this?….Or alternatively check the drive report on Edmunds.
The only downside is that it does not offer 7 seats.
Good Job Subaru!
I agree with Neil R, I think this car is great …… ticks alot of boxes…. for me anyway.
Very smooth on the road.
So what if it only has 6 seats, will only use 4 most of the time.
Plenty of room in the rear seats too.
