2010 BMW 6 Series Gets Cosmetic Update, More Equipment And Improved Economy

BMW AUSTRALIA HAS announced a raft of updates to the 2010 BMW 6 Series Sport Coupe and Convertible models.

Landing in dealerships this month, the updated 6 Series arrives with refreshed cosmetics, two new paint choices, an updated iDrive system and improved fuel economy.

With the addition of BMW’s EfficientDynamics regenerative braking system, fuel consumption drops 5.4 percent to 10.5 l/100km for the 650i Sport Coupe.

At 10.9 l/100km, the 2010 650i Sport Convertible uses 6.8 percent less fuel than the outgoing model.

Output from the 650i’s 4.8 litre V8 is unchanged at 270kW and 490Nm. Despite the model’s improved economy, it will still propel the coupe to 100km/h in just 5.2 seconds and the convertible in 5.6 seconds.

Externally, a new longitudinally-straked bonnet echoes the Z4’s design cues, and 19-inch lightweight alloys replace the previous 18-inch standard rims.

Tailpipes finished in dark chrome cap off what BMW claims is a sportier-sounding exhaust system. A high-gloss shadow-line dresses up the rest of the exterior.

Two new shades, Imola Red and Carbon black, have been added to the 650i’s colour palette.

The biggest change in the 6 Series cabin is the addition of BMW’s latest iDrive controller design to the centre console.

The new control interface is more intuitive and user-friendly than the last, and the entertainment screen has also been upgraded with an 8.8-inch high-resolution monitor.

An 80GB internal hard drive now stores map data for the 650i’s navigation system, with 12GB available for music storage.

Pearl leather is the standard interior trim for the 6 Series range, however Saddle Brown light, Chateau, Cream Beige or Black leather is available at no extra cost.

Birch or maple wood trim can be optioned in place of the standard brushed alloy dash and door accents.

The 2010 BMW 650i Sport Coupe and Convertible land in Australian showrooms from November, priced from $227,300 for the hardtop and $245,100 for the convertible (before on-road costs).

The BMW M6 model range carries over into 2010 unchanged.
