Mazda6 Coupe and Cabriolet renderings

Its hard to believe that the new lithely handsome Mazda6 is failing to set it’s Japanese home market on fire – but that appears to be the case, with sales falling short of expectations. The Japanese know the Mazda6 as the Atenza, or maybe we know their Atenza as the Mazda6… Whatever the case, they just aren’t overly keen on the sedan and wagon variant that has received wide ranging acclaim in Australia.

Rather than panic, Mazda is reported to have whipped up a fix in the form of a Coupe and Cabriolet version of the Atenza, in addition to a high-performance Mazdaspeed Atenza.
According to 7Tune, Mazda are modeling the Atenza range on BMW’s 3-Series range and the new models will mirror the current 3-Series line-up consisting of a sedan, wagon, convertible, coupe and a high-performance model. Mazda are even looking to bring their build quality up to the Bavarian’s level – which it surely wouldn’t far off now.

Will we see the Mazda6 Coupe and Cabriolet in Australia? Maybe…and there a possibility that the odds can be increased. Anyone looking to buy the new Mazda6 (and who could blame you) should hold off. Mazda will think the sedan and wagons are duds and ship the Coupe and Cabriolet straight over! Or at least that’s how it works in Japan…
