THE OFFICIAL UNVEILING of BMW's diesel-electric hybrid supercar concept is less than a fortnight away and BMW has opened the gates with a torrent of information on the eco-friendly sportscar.

Earlier this week we received our first BMW-sanctioned look at the Vision EfficientDynamics Concept. The German automaker has now released a second video of the car, featuring the designers and engineers that made it.

The video is light on technical detail, but gives a solid insight into the philosophy behind the car's design.

A radical evolution of BMW's current design language, the Vision EfficientDynamics Concept will likely provide some clues as to the marque's future style and engineering direction.

Powered by two electric motors (one on each axle) and with a mid-mounted three-cylinder diesel engine hooked up to the rear wheels, the concept produces 265kW of combined power and a whopping 800Nm of torque.

Effectively a plug-in hybrid, the EfficientDynamics concept is able to be charged from a mains outlet in just 2.5 hours and can run on electric power only.

The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept will make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 15.
