A LIGHTLY-CAMOUFLAGED E63 AMG test mule has been spotted on a European motorway, showing for the first time what the wagonised version of Mercedes-Benz’s big-hitting sports sedan will look like.

Like its sedan stablemate, the E63 AMG Estate will wear a sportier front bumper, unique LED running lights (differentiating the front from the rest of the E-Class range), subtle side skirts and a diffuser-style rear bumper.

A lower ride height, 18-inch lightweight AMG alloys, rhomboid exhaust outlets and prominent “6.3 AMG” badging on the front quarter panels will also denote the E63 Estate’s sporty intent.

The Estate will share its mechanical package with the E63 AMG sedan, meaning 386kW and a huge 637Nm will be churned out by a 6.2 litre naturally-aspirated V8 and fed into a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

The AMG-tuned SPEEDSHIFT MCT seven-speed sports transmission takes power to the rear wheels, and the entire car is suspended on a combination of coil springs (front) and airbags (rear).

Performance numbers have not been released for the E63 AMG Estate, but with the sedan able to sprint from zero to 100km/h in a brisk 4.4 seconds the wagon is bound to do the same in under five seconds.

A firm release date has yet to be firmed up, but don’t count on seeing it in Australia soon.

The more sedate E-Class Estate variants aren’t due to hit our shores until the first quarter of 2010 - the E63 torque-monster variant will likely follow some time after.
