TOUTED AS the company’s “most advanced 125 production supersport machine ever”, Yamaha has today announced the 2009 Yamaha YZF-R125, arriving in local showrooms from late September.
Developed by the same engineers behind the YZF-R6 and the hero YZF-R1, the R125 features a raft of technology derived from the company’s extensive MotoGP experience.
Powered by a four-stroke, four-valve single-cylinder 125cc SOHC engine and paired with a six-speed transmission, the YZF-R125 is tuned to deliver optimum torque right through the range to maximum power at 9000rpm.
Built on a Deltabox frame with an aluminium swing-arm, the R125 features lightweight five-spoke wheels, with a large diameter 292mm front disc and 230mm rear disc.
For instant throttle response, the R125 features a compact fuel injection system fed by a large-capacity airbox which, combined with the two inlet valves, delivers optimum intake efficiency and enhanced throttle response across the rev range.
Featuring R-series styling inspired by its bigger R1 and R6 siblings, along with an R6-style mid-ship muffler, Yamaha says the R125 is “targeted at the discerning buyer”.
The 2009 Yamaha YZF-R125 will be available from late September, with an RRP of $6999 including GST.

After seeing the success of the CBR125 Yamaha would be crazy not to release this bike here. Does look the business, but man are these things tiny.
sorry yamaha, too “lam”
2k more expensive than the cbr125r.
They won’t make many sales with a price like that when its barely any better than the cbr125r.
FAIL.
nearly 25% more expensive than honda cbr 125r.. I have a yamaha scooter myself (YQ50) but this time I think I will get the honda instead, unless Yamaha world can do me a very good deal…
SORRY……YAMAHA
These are not small bikes. They have a full size chassis. No where near as small as the CBR125. As for the “high” price have a look at the build quality and the specs before writing them off as over-priced. These are a great 125cc bike and I think the best value for money 125 in Australia. I’ll be getting one for sure!
