TOYOTA AUSTRALIA has announced a raft of updates for the 70 Series Landcruiser range, including better passive safety equipment and more generous standard features.
Driver and front passenger airbags are now standard and an extended front bumper houses sensors for the airbag system.
A new four-spoke steering wheel with telescopic adjustment has also been added to the Landcruiser workhorse’s standard spec sheet, and the dashboard’s design now incorporates a bottle holder in the centre console.
An AM/FM double-DIN single CD tuner is new for 2010 and includes a USB input and a 3.5mm audio input jack for portable music players.
A feature likely to be appreciated by tradesmen on the move, Bluetooth connectivity for mobile phones and music players is included.
The updates apply to all models in the Landcruiser 70 range, including cab-chassis, troop carrier and wagon models.
Prices for these and other features have been increased by $600, or around one per cent for each model.
The range starts from $57,640* for the cab-chassis, $58,540 for the wagon and $64,540 for the troop carrier. Option prices remain unchanged.
Mechanical specifications remain unchanged for 2010, with all variants continuing to be powered by a 4.5 litre turbodiesel V8.
The 4.5-litre engine, which meets Euro IV emission standards, delivers 151kW of power at 3400rpm and generates a sizable 430Nm of torque from 1200rpm to 3200rpm.
A five-speed manual is the only gearbox on offer, and feeds power to all four wheels via a dual-range transfer case.

Honestly, you would of thought for the price you pay to buy a 70 series brand new from the dealer, that some of these features would have been included years ago.
I guess when you build a good enough reputation around a model, you’re able to get away with it.
it may be a reliable work horse…..but the looks are very dated.
I think those that buy a LC are more worried about reliablity and less about ‘looks’.
Putting the air bag sensors into the front bumper is going to make it tough for the 95% of buyers who fit a bull bar to these cars.
It’s amazing Toyota has had the gall to sell these things without air bags till now.
Have they increased the rear axle width to match the front with this update? The current ones are atrociously dangerous with the narrow rear and wider front.
To me the 70 series is the ultimate in looks.
Toyota’s awesome reliability plus they have dealers everywhere to service/fix them and get parts is hard to beat. I also reckon it looks tops!
How could you go past one of these ute’s?
Theres nothing on the market that even comes close in terms of reliability and grunt.

I love the looks too, Looks better proportionally then even the G-Wagon. Only one thing could make the LC70 better, portal axles!
i love and have toyotas, but they would be better with nissan patrol diff strengths!!!
