Nissan R35 GT-R scores first competition victory in Super GT

Nissan are continuing the massively successful motorsport career of their GT-R, with the latest incarnation the R35 GT-R taking first and second place in the 2008 Super GT series opener in Japan.

The two NISMO GT-R’s started from the front row of the grid and dominated the race. Starting from third place on the grid was the CALSONIC GT-R #12 which was unfortunately hit from behind and forced to pit for repairs.

Both leading Nissan's pitted for tyres and a driver change in the middle of the 52 lap race and swapped positions although the change was short lived. The XANAVI NISMO GT-R driven by Satoshi Motoyama had softer tyres fitted which meant better grip and they were able to catch and overtake Masataka Yanagida in the MOTUL AUTECH GT-R on lap 24.

Both GT-R’s showed a clean pair of heels to the competition and by lap 40 were four seconds in front of the Lexus SC 430 in third place. Winning was academic and a resounding show of force from the first R35 GT-R’s to be used in anger.

Nissan really has managed to hit a home run with the GT-R. It's really impressive. Carlos Ghosn must be doing back flips.
