Porsche as expected have confirmed that they are filing a request for the judicial review of Mayor Ken Livingston’s ridiculous petrol guzzler tax, due to come into effect later this year.
Mayor Livingston plans to hit owners of all vehicles deemed to be ‘environmentally unfriendly’ with an equally unfriendly daily £25 tax when they enter the city streets of London.
Porsche have formerly requested that the Mayor reconsider his stance and the response received was astonishing, with Mayor Livingston comparing cars built by the relatively low-volume sports car manufacturer to the garbage that litters London’s streets.
Porsche have previously indicated that they will not shy away from taking legal action and it is expected that Mayor Livingston is also prepared to duke it out in court if need be.
"The new £25 charge will have no meaningful impact on congestion and TfL's own figures show the anticipated CO2 emissions savings in a year could be equivalent to less than four hours of emissions from Heathrow. All it will do is unfairly hit large numbers of drivers in London and undermine London's attractiveness as a place to do business. We are therefore formally applying for judicial review to challenge the Mayor's proposals and we are confident we have a strong case," said Andy Goss, Managing Director of Porsche Cars GB
At least one side in the battle is making some sense.

If his tax gets more people into more fuel efficient cars or onto trains buses and bikes then it is a good tax. The Paris Velib (City Bike) project seems to be a great success, so all power to Ken if he can get s similar scheme running.
