THE LAUNCH OF PlayStation 3 racer Gran Turismo 5 is drawing nearer, although publisher Polyphony Digital remains tight-lipped on a specific date.

This week, Polyphony released a short video demonstrating the introduction of visible car damage into the Gran Turismo series, first reported back in May.

Visible car damage has been a long time coming in the Gran Turismo franchise, with carmaker and publisher disputes being the main hold-up until now. The Forza Motorsport series, with its smaller list of cars, has featured visible car damage since number two.

As a compromise, Polyphony has made the visible damage feature available on the rally and race cars only, with street cars remaining untouched.

The video follows a tarmac rally version of the 2009 Subaru Impreza WRX STI as it crunches its way through a course, colliding with corners and other cars.

Polyphony boss Kazanori Yamauchi has also promised that other features long absent from Gran Turismo, such as visible weather effects and night racing, will also appear in GT5.

Wow, that damage looks totally rubbish. A bonnet stuck at 45 degrees, at 100+kph? Ahhh, no.

FORZA? Rubbish GT5 will have it's sales profit in the bank, I own both console and was really dissapointed by Forza 2, manly because the darn control buttons on top was no longer anologue only the side buttons was.

Hopefully forza 3 will be better than 2 because 1 is still a pleasent game to play. and that control issue...

GO GT5 nascar, rally, the lot

and another thing GT5 is the real driving simulator, just needs a clutch option in the game for engine breaking

Agree with Dale, they still have a lot to do to make it more realistic. But for those of use who know the GT series, I fully expect that the final product will deliver.

Now....if only they could do a LOT more tracks! And bring back some of the classics - Laguna Seca, the one which went around the island, the night time Japan tracks etc...

Wow - looks terrible. When the car gets rear-ended into the fence, they both just bounce off and glide across the track like it's ice. Wth? C'mon, it can't be that hard - Grid and Forza have damage/crashes sorted out.
