Pontiac G8 Body Parts To Feature On Limited Edition Aus-Market 'Pontiac G8 SS-V'

ALTHOUGH GM HAS SCUTTLED plans to continue selling the Australian-built Pontiac G8 in the United States, Holden is apparently not done with the car just yet.

Reports have surfaced this week suggesting that Holden plans to make use of its extensive supplies of surplus G8 body parts in a limited-edition Commodore SS V variant.

The model, according to reports, will be offered in sedan, Sportwagon and ute variants, utilising the same 6.0 litre V8 and interior fittings as the regular SS V. However, the Pontiac G8's front bumper, twin-nostriled grille and faux-vented bonnet will clearly set the special-edition Commodore apart.

The sedan is tipped to also get the G8's bootlip spoiler, while the wagon and ute would be standard SS V from the A pillars back.

It's unclear whether the special edition Commodore will wear Holden or Pontiac badging, but a leaked dealership communique described the car as a "Pontiac G8 SS-V".

The dealership bulletin also said the total production run for the G8-flavoured Commodores will be limited to 1500 cars - 500 of each bodystyle. Pricing is expected to begin at $47,490 for the manual ute, rising to $55,290 for the manual sedan and $57,290 for the manual wagon.

Pricing for automatic variants has not been revealed, but Holden says that full details on "a new  SS V series special edition" will be revealed soon.

    extra charge??? holden should be charging less since the body parts are in excess. nearly $60k is waaaay too much money for a taxi with a v8 and pretty panels, think of what else you can get for that coin, the list is pretty sweet and doesn't depreicate fast as off produce ;)

    Its not a pretty car to start with... and now we are getting 1500 hit with the ugly stick and Homer Simpson's speed holes in the bonnet. These should be at a reduced price

    I never rated that styling anyway. Give the parts away to chairty to sell.

    I don't mind it, simply because it'd be a bit different to all the other taxis on the road..

    But, yeah.. $60k is a lot of cash for junk.

    I would be embarased to be seen even in the back seat of this.

    I think they should badge them as Pontiac... might help to counter depreciation, and will help eliminate most of the "taxi" feel. Holden - heaps of people have them... Pontiac - quite rare, and a little more special.

    @dav

    Judging by your spelling, I think you are the type of person Holden was looking to for sales of these.

    Are you sure it will have the 6.2 litre powerplant? Im thinking it will be a dressed up version of our 6.0litre SS-V already available.

    I don't regard them to be a Limited edition as they don't have any unique individual identification numbers like the XC Cobra or HX LE Coupe etc

    They're more like a Special Edition as they will only be available until Holden have run out of the ugly Pontiac panels etc or the new VF is released [which ever one comes first]
