JAGUAR IS DEVELOPING a new, smaller sports car designed to take on Porsche’s Boxster convertible and its hardtop Cayman sibling, according to British motoring mag car.

To be offered in roadster and coupe form, car describes the new model - christened XE in the press - as Jaguar’s attempt to turn the luxury marque into the UK’s own version of Porsche.

Slotting into the Jaguar line-up beneath the XK coupe and convertible, the smaller XE is believed to form part of a product plan that would see the Tata-owned Jaguar building more than 100,000 cars a year by 2015.

According to car, the XE is to be built on a new aluminium platform designed to be shared across Jaguar’s range, and is expected to be powered by a 205kW naturally-aspirated V6. A supercharged version producing a Cayman-beating 260kW is also suggested as likely.

It is currently speculative as Jaguar is reported as still exploring the production viability of the new entry-level sports. If it gets the green light, 2013 is the earliest likely launch date.

yikes the windscreen-cabin bit needs a bit of a redesign ;/

paddy - agreed.
But it does look nice.
You can see traditional Jaguar lines.

This isn’t an accurate indication of what the XE will look like. First of all this concept was released ages ago, and since then Jaguar’s design language has changed incredibly. It should look great.
