VOLVO IS REPORTEDLY preparing an all-electric concept car for next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show, however the Swedish automaker says there are no immediate plans to bring the technology to its road cars.

Speaking to British car mag Autocar, a source within Volvo confirmed that a battery-powered C30 was being readied for Frankfurt. The concept will be used to guage reaction to the idea of an all-electric Volvo and assess the viability of such a model.

The C30 hatchback also formed the basis for one of Volvo’s other green car concepts, the ReCharge plug-in hybrid (pictured).

At the moment, Volvo is “not considering putting it into production”. But, with the start-stop-equipped C30 DRIVe due to land here next month and a diesel-electric hybrid Volvo slated to arrive in 2012, Volvo’s electric car may appear sometime in the next decade.
