HSV Remaining Tight-Lipped On E Series 2 ‘Leaked’ Pics

LESS THAN A MONTH away from its launch, images of HSV’s E Series 2 GTS have supposedly been leaked onto the internet.

So far commentary has been generally negative, with most failing to warm to the new design’s radical styling. However, HSV spokesman Simon Frost suggests that people should not instantly assume the images are of the actual production car.

“Pictures and commentary purporting to show the final design and specification of HSV’s E-Series 2 should be treated with caution,” Mr Frost said.

The images do appear to have come from HSV’s design offices, but may have been created as styling mock-ups during the E Series 2’s development. Final production imagery of the current FPV FG range were infamously found in a dumpster ahead of that model’s launch, but Mr Frost says such carelessness would not have been the culprit here.

While HSV remains tight-lipped about these images, there are at least a few design elements that sync up with the last official teaser video we saw.

The rear light clusters are largely unchanged, and the twin-nostril bonnet from the Pontiac G8 is widely tipped to be grafted onto the HSV’s snout. LED daytime running lamps were also rumoured to feature on the next-gen HSV range.

As for the prominent jawline sported by the vehicles in these images, that may or may not make it to the showroom.

The HSV E Series 2 range will be officially unveiled on September 9

Being a Holden Fan I have always liked the look of the VE especially the HSV range….but oh my god!!! The above looks really ugly…especially the vents on the rear bar how smashed were they when they designed the dam thing!

I think the front will grow on me but I guess I will wait to see some more pics or in the flesh.

10/10 for presence & agression….but oh dear, as far as style and good taste go…it seems HSV’s have well and choosen their target market….I thought they were chasing would-be BMW, Audi, Mercedes and Lexus buyers…if these photos are accurate they have well and truly abandoned that idea!!

Just *maybe* these are genuine photos released by HSV on purpose to gauge buyer feedback.

I think HSV will be rather worried with what the public are telling them…….

HSV will revert back to less in-your-face body kit i believe! :-)

I want a stealth HSV, i.e. say a Calais spec. [what a unfortunate name] with this revised HSV powertrain fitted, no badges, no bodykits, no look-at-me, no doofdoof want it to put the police to sleep when it drives by.

To be fitted with the new LPi system which they are developing and RAISED a few cm’s NOT lowered [yuk!]

Cheers,

F-0

They remind me of those God awful CR2 kits (or whatever they were) for Commodores and Falcons from a few years back. Very tacky indeed. I don’t mind the idea of the bonnet scoops, however I’d much prefer the top of an LS9 poking out the top… I can dream, can’t I?

Just couldn’t resist hey?

The front end treatment is an abomination. What is they bloody obsession with bonnet vents? They don’t look any better on the new Aston Martin V12 Vantage, and ruin an otherwise pretty car (in both cases). I wonder if the more conservative Senator will escape the design carnage. Probably not, sadly.

Told you it BLOWS!!!!

Disgusting! Great, so now the Australians have ruined the LED lights…….. looks like a piece of crap…. just like how TGAU compaired the beautiful RS6 Estate… with a Clubby… f*** sake!

06-09 VE HSV’s just got better resale!

Imagine if this was some elaborate scheme to rush all current HSV models out the door?

Anyone who thinks this will be the next installed me for HSV would surely go out and buy any current model they can get.

Genius!

They already looked like that had been hit with an ugly stick, now they look like the ugly tree fell on them.

@FrugalOne: you mean like FPV does with the F6E?

Lol, I cant help but laugh at such ridiculous overthetop bodykits, reminds of that episode of the simpsons where Homer was using a handgun to shoot holes in his car bonnet because as he said ‘ These speed holes should make my car go faster ‘ HSV must obviously agree with this way of thinking as this car is FULL of speed holes!

Hey dont kill me for being the lil kiwi here… but I must say this ‘radical’ styling looks better than the old more dull styling…
I wouldnt mind if this goes on to the sportier HSVs, then have a german-tailing kit for senator and grange and those super luxury ones…
ATM I think the kit of the HSVs are just too similar =|

If they released them for feedback, it would have been useless as there is not much they can do about it if it was negative feedback. To my knowledge, if they wanted feedback, they would have randomly selected a pool of people to show this too, and as such, they would have signed confidentially agreements etc…

I like the rear on the silver one, the rear fascia treatment is pretty cool, not sure about the fronts, but I’ll reserve an opinion for seeing it the metal…

With that much negative criticism, HSV’s lack of denial into the legitimacy of those photo’s indicates that they are indeed real, but wouldn’t be surprised if HSV designers are working overtime at the moment on a refresh design. When even Holden fanatics are complaining about the looks, you know you’ve made a big mistake.

I just wonder about all the “negative commentary”. There have been 14 comments here, where have the rest come from? The analysis seems a little generalised if you ask me (or have I missed something?).
I personally wouldn’t buy a HSV and I suspect many people here wouldn’t either, so our comments don’t really mean much to HSV, however I do know people who are into these cars…and I reckon they will love all the over the top detail. HSV would have done their own research. I have no doubt the average HSV driver wants to initmidate on the road so of course the next step is what we see in these images. HSV owners were almost certainly consulted and they were telling HSV they want bonnet scoops, more aggression and more presence.

I agree max… for those people who hate it, there will be just as many who like it just as much!

FrugalOne - HSV do have two cars in their line up that are never as out there as they rest of the line up. They call it the Grange and the Senator….which is based on the Statesmen and Calais.

Surely the only people who could like that abomination would be the sort of people who like to stick lurid bodykits on Lancers and Excels, so couldn’t afford this car anyway…

Tony D, no I don’t like lurid body kits, nor Lancers and Excels or anything like that. Prefer a VW Passat R36, Golf GTI and nothing with an outrageous bodykit and a stereotypical Australian would drive…. known as a bogan. ha Rather something with style, elegance and luxury and it’s not always about power!

Point made by HJS - actually it reminds me of the Simpsons ep where Homer designs a car for his brother’s business - it was green, had fins on the back, a bubble dome canopy and a Rolls griller amongst other things…

Good points made by the other blokes on here; HSV would be reacting to current buyer feedback and the sort that buy HSVs like to intimidate other road users (well a big proportion of them anyway) so this figures.

We’re back to being inspired by animals to create the external shell of our cars. Ford went with the racoon now Holden decides a blow fish would look good

Christ, an Ford AU Falcon looks better than this. And we know how well the AU Ford Falcon sales went. Best of luck HSV!

Ive just bought an R8 Tourer and I asked the dealer if I should wait for the upgrade. ‘ I’d buy this model, the new on is just using all of the old G8 parts and it doesn’t look as good or as complete. Enough said!

Yeh, enough said Steve, you believed a car dealer when he told you to “buy this one now”. He must have been telling the truth, sales guys don’t lie to get commission!!

Dave
Your 100% correct. He would of just have to wait a bit longer to get it, and I might of been the proud new owner of a potentially Butt ugly HSV.

Well done HSV!

I knew those toyota sportivo designers would fix this car nicely.

Not that the VE could have been improved at all. now HSV has done themselves proud by enhancing an already awesome machine.

The new body kit and performance package is state of the art and out of this world.

The mind boggles as to where this spectacular car.

Love the work and cant wait to get my hands on one.

Who wants to put their order in to Autobarn for the LED daytime running lights for their VR SS? ;)

@ rajman

Oh god, help us all! Let alone… ok Skoda and Audi have done a good job in using the LED lights…. now holden have gone through to use them and now we’ll be seeing clowns in their stupid, pathetic old ‘fully sic commodore’ …. ok everytime i see one with them i want a $100! boy will i be wealthy!

wet again holden produces another good looking car. i have an r8 307 hsv clubsport and i took a photo of it and compared it to the new e’s and my one is so much chunkier. mainly aorund the rims… but in one way its a good thing so if we want to getit lowered it will sit nicely. begginig to get one but parents wont buy it. lol
