HOLDEN HAS CALLED a press conference for tomorrow morning at its Port Melbourne engine assembly plant, where it is expected to announce a raft of major changes and additions to the entire VE Commodore range.

Current speculation says Holden will officially confirm a new range of fuel-efficient direct-injected V6 engines for the Commodore sedan, Sportwagon and ute, as well as the Caprice and Statesman. The new engine is widely tipped to be three litres in capacity, but we’ll find out for sure tomorrow at 11am.

It’s unclear at this stage whether the small-capacity V6 will replace the existing 3.6 litre base engine or merely supplant it, but with Ford recently announcing the addition of a four-cylinder engine to the bottom of its Falcon line-up, Holden may take a similar approach with its own fuel-efficient powerplant.

Styling, aerodynamics and trim packages are also expected to be in for a major overhaul. There’s no shortage of rumours on what we might see changed in the updated Commodore, but we’ll leave the scuttlebutt alone and recommend you tune into TMR tomorrow around midday (AEST) for our report on Holden’s official announcement.
