Hotrodders and fans of American Hot Rod will be saddened to know that Boyd Coddington died overnight, at around 6am Californian time.
No details are known at this stage but it has been reported that Boyd was a frequent hospital visitor over recent months. An official announcement is expected.
Boyd was best known in the early years for his trend setting custom rod and street machine creations and designs. Boyd began building cars when he was 13 years old and over the years came up with many show-stoppers, including Cadzilla - a customized 1950s Cadillac that was built for Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top fame. Cadzilla is still considered a masterpiece of automotive art.
He achieved international fame through his reality show ‘American Hot Rod’ on the Discovery Channel and has no doubt been inspirational in introducing younger generations to the magic of cars.
Our condolences to all of those close to Boyd and of course his legion of fans.
