FPV GS 302 Images Surface Online: Leaked Official Images, Or Prank?

TWO IMAGES inadvertently posted onto a Western Australian Ford dealership's website have raised speculation of a de-tuned, cut-price sibling for the V8-powered FPV GT.

The images show very little, but what can be discerned are a set of  stylised GS decals and a 302 badge on the tips of the rear wing. A four-piston Brembo caliper also peeks out from behind the spokes of the rear wheel, although that doesn't necessarily mean the high-performance braking hardware will be standard on this new mystery model.

The 302 badging suggests that output will be 302kW, a small decrease compared to the 315kW developed by the current FPV GT. In combination with the GS decals (a Falcon GS was offered as a less-expensive and less-powerful alternative to the GT during the 1970s), these small external changes give the rumours an air of credibility.

fpv_gs_302_leak_02Are they real though? FPV won't say, but the company also refuses to deny the existence of such a car.

The images have already been pulled down from the site that hosted them, which also suggests the cat may well have been let out of the bag.

It's all highly speculative at the moment, but given the historical significance of the GS 302 badging and the wide price gap between the $46,990 XR8 and the $67,890 FPV GT, bringing in a mid-strength model may make sound commercial sense for FPV.

    I call fake... since when did a V8 FPV have a XR-model falcon wing? And do they REALLY have the *spare* money to spend on making a 302kW version of the BOSS 315? (Surely they wouldn't put the old BOSS 302 from the Cobra in it?!)

    Guys it's not fake. A Ford dealer friend of mine told me about the GS 4 weeks ago. He also told me that it would be a permanent fixture. The 302kW engine is just a 290kW BOSS with minor tweaks to the tune, no need to build a different engine so it won’t cost them anything extra. He also said there are rumours that there won't be an XR8 after mid next year and that Ford might be pulling out of V8 Supercars altogether. The word is that was the biggest reason why Vodafone team and drivers have switched camps. FPV will continue to offer V8's though.

    Hey Jess, Im with you i was told by a dealer in brissie way back in 2007 that Ford where dropping 2 big name teams in V8's and pulling out altogether by the end of 2009 to mid 2010 both XR8 and supercars make sense when you look at what has happened with the likes of Dicky J & 888 racing so why not a GS to replace the outgoing XR8 watch this space

    Guys,
    They are all true. I just ordered one today. Car is that new that the dealer had to right it all out on a paper contract not the normal computerised one. Should be here 3 rd week of October, Available in 6 colours by memory, the 19 inch are the f6 Argent ones

    Is ford really going to pull out of the V8 Supercars? What about FPR? Dont really blame them I guess, the V8s are that boring its not funny, Im only 18 but I watch old footage of the 80s ATCC cars with Dick Johnson and Peter Brock and it is way better then the V8s, mainly because the cars that where on the track where still relatively the same as the road going cars. They just had worked engines, gearboxes and diffs. The engine capacity isnt even the same as the falcon or commodores anymore in the V8s. Id much rather watch the production car racing anyway

    Don't know about them pulling out of touring carsm But I know what u mean. I have a 70's GT and part of the best thing about that era was that you could walk straight into any ford dealer, by a GT, and then race it at Bathurst if you wished.

    Man that will be so awesome if the new 302 makes it into the aussie falcon! I dont really like the boss so much, it will be interesting to see how the new 302 compares

    Take it from me guys & gals i purchased a GS ute & it is an evil, evil machine complete with pure GT running gear only limited to 6000rpm little else other than the XR front, i also added the Brembo upgrade thank the lord as this thing needed them so if you are lucky enough to still find one i can recommend the GS is no pussy
