INDIAN AUTOMAKER Mahindra has given its sole Australian-delivered model line a comprehensive revamp for 2009, adding new exterior styling, a more comfortable interior and a higher level of standard safety kit.

The cosmetic changes are limited to a new front bumper design, “sportier” headlight and foglamp housings, a bonnet scoop and pull-type door handles.

Inside, there are more supportive seats, longer seatbelts, new electrically-adjustable  rear-view mirrors and an MP3-compatible stereo with USB and SD card inputs. Steering wheel-mounted audio controls are also now standard.

Safety-wise, Mahindra has added ABS and standard dual front airbags, as well as pre-tensioning seatbelts from Australian parts supplier Autoliv.

Mechanically, the updated Pik-Up is identical to the outgoing model. That means a 79kW/247Nm 2.5 litre turbodiesel and five-speed manual transmission are still the default offerings, with buyers able to choose between a 4×4 and 4×2 drivetrain.

The Pik-Up range is available in single and dual-cab layout, with cab/chassis and ute variants on offer for all drivetrains and bodystyles.
