MITSUBISHI AUSTRALIA has today revealed pricing and details for the 2010 Mitsubishi MN Triton, featuring a new high-power turbo-diesel engine and a longer, deeper tray.

Four-wheel-drive variants of the Triton now feature a 2.5 litre HPD (High Performance Diesel) inline four-cylinder engine, developing 131kW at 4000rpm and 400Nm of torque at 2000rpm for the manual version, and 350Nm of torque for the automatic.

Fuel consumption for the manual version of the 2.5 litre HPD is 8.3 l/100km while automatic variants return a fuel economy of 9.3 l/100km.

The new engine, offering 11 percent more power and 17 percent more torque, succeeds the outgoing 3.2 litre DiD turbo-diesel.

Two automatic transmissions are available with the 2.5 litre HPD model: the four-speed automatic of the current generation carries over to all but the range-topping GLX-R, which is fitted with an electronically controlled five-speed automatic with a sports mode that offers improved shifting, performance and CO2 emissions.

Two-wheel-drive models retain the 2.4 litre petrol engine and 2.5 litre diesel engine from the current line-up.

The petrol engine develops 94kW at 5250rpm and 194Nm of torque at 4000rpm, coupled with a five-speed manual transmission. Fuel consumption is rated at 10.9 l/100km.

The lower-spec 2.5 litre diesel engine produces 100kW at 3800rpm and 314Nm of torque at 2000rpm, returning fuel consumption figures of 8.2 l/100km in manual guise and 8.6 l/100km for the automatic.

The 2010 Mitsubishi MN Triton is available in eight two-wheel-drive variants: the petrol powered manual GL cab chassis and GLX dual-cab, automatic or manual diesel powered GLX cab chassis and dual-cab, and GL-R dual-cab.

The new HPD 2.5 litre diesel engine is available with four-wheel drive models in either manual or automatic transmissions in GLX single-cabs and dual-cabs, GL-R dual-cabs or GLX-R dual-cabs.

The tray of the updated Triton is 14 percent larger than the current model – in line with the recently updated UK version of the Triton – growing from 1325mm to 1505mm in length and a further 55mm in depth.

Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited President and CEO Robert McEniry said the carmaker decided to release details of the updated Triton early in response to strong demand for the current model, now all but sold out.

“Triton is one of the mainstays of the Mitsubishi range and has always proved popular as a practical and rugged work vehicle that can take all the hard knocks thrown at it,” Mr McEniry said.

“And, more recently, its recognised four-wheel drive capabilities and car-like comforts have seen it used for recreational activities as well.

“June sales were the highest monthly sales ever recorded for Triton in this country, and now our stocks are running low.  In light of this, we have decided to release details of the new 2010 Triton early.”

Mitsubishi’s All Terrain Technology (MATT) is standard on all GLX-R models, featuring Super Select four-wheel-drive system.

Active Stability and Traction Control, Multi Mode ABS, and Electronic Brake Force Distribution feature in the MATT system, along with an optional Diff lock.

The rear tailgate of the 2010 Triton features a swage line, making it more resistant to soft-impact denting.

The interior trim has been given a new, darker hue, while the front seating receives improved comfort and support updates.

Towing capacity is up from the 2500kg rating of the current Triton dual-cab diesel to 2700kg on two-wheel-drive models, and 3000kg for four-wheel-drive models.

Safety features include driver and front passenger airbags, front and rear door impact bars, front seatbelt pretensioners and child restraint points.

The 2010 Mitsubishi Triton is offered with a five year/130,000km whole vehicle warranty, and a 10 year/160,000km powertrain warranty. A five year/unlimited kilometre roadside assistance package is also offered.

Any news about the new updated Lancer?

It too is listed as in runout?

Cheers,

F-0

No Lancer news F-O. There is some news regarding other models that we’ll publish soon though.

I have it on good Authority that the 2010MY Lancer refresh is only minor, much like the 2008My to 2009MY refresh.

I have been told ES models get a lidded console and the “safety pack” of the extra 4 airbags will be standard.

Also all models will get 2009MY VRX Tail lamps.

There is a couple more bits but so minor I have forgotten. Sorry :)

What is not confirmed, however rumoured is a colour LCD information screen to replace the current one, and also a new design rear bumper. Like I said that is rumoured not confirmed.

One should pray they change the design of the Sportback’s tail lights as those look 10 years old design wise.

Any CJ Lancer owners, pop over to http://www.clubcj.net , there is a great community of Lancer owners there full of information!

Thanks to both for the heads up!!

Appreciated

Cheers,

F-0

I can only hope in the MY10 Lancer refresh they can do something about the interior plastics. I think they feel quality enough, but boy mine rattles - in the dash, in the doors, in the B pillars. Sure it’s only on coarse chip roads and the vibrations, but hell for a 2008 model car it’s disappointing.

I drove an FG Falcon the other day and hopefully soon I’ll be driving one of those or a 380, Australian made and engineered seems to cope better.

Wow, mine doesn’t rattle at all. Yes, the road noise was shocking, but now I have changed tyres it is miles better. Also models made after May 2008 are a lot quieter inside thanks to extra sound insulation. Mine was one of the first into the country too.

I went back to my dealer who said according to the owner manual, rattles are not covered by warranty. I went to another dealer for the 15,000km service and they had a look and fixed the initial rattle, which was determined to be from a shifted seal in the airconditioner ducting within the dash. The rattle has since returned, and has bought a few friends too!

In the last year I’ve done over 55,000km and mechanically it’s been great, although now it is developing a nasty whine at 60km/h in fourth and fifth. I still find the road noise shocking although I have only upgraded to the standard VRX 18″ wheels. Regardless of tyres, a 380 or FG Falcon will beat them hands down, and that is purely because of the price and nature of those vehicles.

I believe the extra sound deadening in the Lancers was part of the MY09 update in September 2008, I was told this by a Mitsubishi rep at the Motorcade about a week after I bought mine. I have also (very) recently put Lovells springs in the car, and it makes a huge difference in handling for minimal effect on ride quality, but they are squeaky and because of this do not feel as ‘together’ as the standard setup.

All in all, it was the most sensible option at the time, but now I find myself wanting more.

I feel for you mate, sounds like yours is bad egg. My parent’s VW Jetta rattles more than my Lancer, and it is not much older. Dad has taken it back to VW quite a few times now, and they “fix it” but it always comes back.

The rattles are covered under warranty, but only for a short time, 3 months, 30,000 I think from memory.

I’ve had mine for almost 2 years now, and I have done 44,000 odd kms. Mechanically it is still perfect and I have the VRX, so I have the 18″ wheels standard. As soon as I replaced the stock VRX tyres (yokohama Advans) tyre noise was reduced. I have Toyo Tranpath on it now I think. They also grip much better. The stock tyres are rubbish.

The extra sound deadening was added from May 2008 Build, much before the 2009My refresh in September/October 2008. models fitted with the extra deadening have a specific option code stamped on the build plate. I can find out that code if you like, I have no idea what it is now.

And yes, the FG and even the 380 are a lot quiter inside, but they are in the next class of vehicle for size, price and fuel usage.

Best of luck anyway, with whatever car you choose.

It isn’t too bad, but the rattles are so annoying especially because I hate rattles. The whine could be from a number of factors and the service manager suggested it could be from having larger wheels which could be sending vibrations through the gearbox. It’s one of those problems that doesn’t show up when you’re trying to show the dealer! He said let it develop and take it back.

I have a May 08 build and complied car, if you could please supply the option code it would be great to see if I have the extra sound deadening. I would be worried if I do, because it is a noisy car. I have been thinking about buying Dynamat Extreme and doing the doors.

Yes I know they are in a different class, and the fuel consumption is excellent in the Lancer, however the FG I drove still impressed with it’s economy especially for the performance. Second hand examples are still quite expensive considering in 2 years they will be worth $12,990, but I am on the lookout for a good 380. Unfortunately their price seems to have stabilised!

But at the same time I might keep the Lancer, and get a new car next year and keep it as our second car. Apart from my disappointments, it’s fundamentally a good car and the best value of the segment.

Ok mate, I will see if I can get the option code for you…

Perhaps yours does not have it if you find it too noisy, a mate of mine has a late 2008 build and his is a fair bit quieter inside than mine. So the difference is noticeable.

i shall get back to you.

The code for the extra sound deadening added since May 08 build onwards is K03. Stamped on mine on the plate inside the front passenger door.

any idea as to where the extra tray space comes from as it states the ute remains the same overall length. or is it just the wheelbase that stays identical?

Denley, from the Mitsubishi UK website (where the MN is for sale already), the dual cab with the long tray is 180mm longer, at 5180mm, despite what this article says. It also says the departure angle is still the same, although not sure how that works when the tray sticks back 180mm more. Still, tempting, the only thing holding me back from getting a Triton is the very short length of the current tray, the long tray will fix that, providing the departure angles are still decent.

thanks Tom much appreciated for the response, now for the green light in late jan early feb and it’s all clear

thanks Tom much appreciated for the response, now for the green light from the wife in late jan early feb and it’s all clear

Went to a Mitsubishi dealership today asking about the MN Triton, they said they would have stock late Sep early Oct, but I managed to get a copy of the brochure spec sheet if anyone is interested in what the difference in models are. In a nutshell, GLX and GL are the same spec as before, GL-R adds sports suspension and 16″ alloys, nudge bar, side steps and rear step, and stability control standard, and GLX-R has everything. 17″, chrome mirrors and door handles, foggies, beefier sidesteps, better interior plastics, etc. Oh and super select 4WD. You can also option in satnav on the GLX-R.

That’s great news about the new Triton. Does it mean there’s any chance the increased sales and demand for recreational vehicles will speed up the 2010 Challenger release?

Have MN GLX-R on order - was told start of Oct deliv - but now shifty dealer is telling me end of oct. Bloody frustrating as now have no car for 4 weeks. Pretty sure that I will start seeing new ones on road this week….
NOT HAPPY MITSUBISHI! SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A NAVARA.

i have been looking for a 4wd for quite a while now ,and have been trying to make up my mind on which one would be best suited to the type of driving and touring i,and my wife intend doing in the near future.
As the purchase will be a one of ,i need to get it right. When you consider we will be touring this great country of ours . i have considered vehicles like Disco 3, BMW 5 as well as NissanPatrol, it semms to me that the right choice for us may be the Triton GLX-R Twin cab,.Can you tell me when we can expect this vehicle in WA. Iam thinking of the deisel ,as the towing capacity is up to 3000kg. I intend towing a van at about 2700kg.

Regards

John

Ben… I know exactly how you feel mate, I was looking for a Navara and decided to go for the Brand New Triton GLX-R, apparently better fuel consumption, they told me I had to wait 2 weeks and it ended up being 9 weeks, I was so frustrated, I had no car and they didn’t even offer a loan car, they are quick to hound you for the sale but once it’s done they don’t give 2 hoots about ya. Now I have the car and I wish I NEVER did. I have had nothing but problems, the fuel consumption is crap, it’s a 75ltr tank and I’m only getting 570k’s out of a full tank. They (The service manager at Dandenong Mitsubishi) keeps telling me that there is nothing wrong and it will get better. I have gone through 5 tanks and NOTHING has changed. Someone else I know has the same car just a couple of weeks older and he can get at least 700k’s….What a joke! Then there’s the issue with the paint job, I received it with swirl marks all over the car and they told me that it’s because it’s black, now I now that that’s a load of rubbish, I have 2 other black cars and they look nothing like that, I cant wash the car, I can’t touch the car without it being marked. They told me at one stage that they were aware of the problem with the paint, now they are saying that they never heard of it. So anyone reading this….. DON’T BY a BLACK MITSUBISHI unless you want constant headaches……

Can anyone tell me my Mitsubishi backed off the power for the new 5 speed auto version of the triton ?
Does this mean the new auto isn’t as strong as it should be ?
I like the idea of this vechicle but would be using it to tow heavy loads which i’d like an auto for… the question is… is up for it if the tranny can’t hack high torque ????

I have a 3 month old GLXR, great ute, crap paint,(planet red) look at it sideways and it scratches. I have spoken to several reputable painters and have both said that the there is next to no paint on it, bugger all clear. A small scratch goes through to the undercoat and if you run your nail across it there is no depth. I have since had 2 doors repainted. I took it to the dealer here in Brisbane and the service manager (obviously not a tradesman painter) flicked me off. They have now lost any future sale as the other half wants to by a 2010 model.
Duggy.
