NEWS SURFACED YESTERDAY that Bob Lutz, now with a new product role in the 'New GM', had reportedly confirmed continuation of Holden's G8 export program to the US - but with the Commodore badged as a Chevrolet.

However, while Lutz was reportedly keen to spill the beans, Holden's official response is a little more guarded.

"There's obviously a heck of a lot of discussion regarding the future of the G8 program, but we're not in a position to comment on what that may mean for Holden at this stage," Holden spokesman Scott Whiffen said to TMR.

Whatever Holden's company line on the matter, this will be story to watch. Bob Lutz is on record as being a strong supporter of the Commodore and Holden Australia's rear-drive expertise, and he played a key role in bringing the Monaro-based Pontiac GTO to the USA in 2004.

Despite Holden's reluctance to confirm or deny the Chevrolet Caprice/Lumina rumours, it's clear that the company views Lutz as a powerful ally.

"From Holden's perspective, you couldn't wish for a better friend than Bob Lutz," Mr Whiffen said.
