Holden to introduce diesel power to the Commodore range

The persistent rumours appear to be true with word this week that GM Holden will be fitting a diesel to their VE Commodore range. As speculated the V6 turbo-diesel is the result of a joint venture with Italian manufacturer VM Motori (GM owns 50 percent of VM Motori)and although no specifications have been forthcoming, expect large dollops of both kilowatts and torque. VM Motori currently have a 2.9-litre V6 Turbo-diesel that shames V8's with its 184Kw and 550Nm output (pictured).

The V6 diesel is being called the V6 VMM and will also be produced in a larger 4.5-litre capacity for use in GM light trucks. The application of the V6 VMM will permeate the GM range with it expected to be found under the bonnet of the Hummer H3, our VE Commodore range and possibly some Opel models.

With fuel prices on the rise, a diesel powered Commodore will finally offer the Aussie driver exactly what they want. Big dollops of low-down torque without the V8 petrol fuel bill to match.
