SUZUKI HAS ANNOUNCED that its all-new race-ready 2010 RM-Z250 motocross bike, is now available in Australia.

Like its larger stable mate, Suzuki's RM-Z450 motocrosser, the RM-Z250 is the first production motocross machine in its class to feature electronic fuel-injection.

The 2010 RM-Z250 is also a ground-up redesign, with the chassis, engine and suspension all coming in for some major updates.

"Fuel-injection technology has revolutionised motocross racing following its introduction on the Suzuki RM-Z450 two years ago," Perry Morison, General Manager, Motorcycles, Suzuki Australia said.

"Adding that technology to the championship-winning Suzuki RM-Z250 with other developments across the board in an all-new model will make it a formidable racing opponent."

suzuki_rm-z250_04 The new RM-Z250's 249cc t four-stroke, liquid cooled, DOHC engine promises giant-killing performance from its compact, lightweight single-cylinder layout - revving to a mind-bending 13,500rpm.

Redline is a stratospheric 13,500rpm, and a stronger crank, titanium valves and 43mm throttle body help it survive at such speeds.

Cam timing is revised, as is intake port geometry. Suzuki's Composite Electrochemical Material coating is applied to the alloy bores, ensuring longevity during competition use.

There is also a slick-shifting five-speed transmission and a right-handlebar-mounted hot starter.

Attached to the engine is an updated chassis frame and suspension system, which consists of a lightweight twin-spar aluminium-alloy frame and a new swingarm with a revised centre brace to increase rigidity.

Absorbing bumps up front is a Showa inverted twin-chamber cartridge-style front fork with 47mm inner tube, and - at the rear - a Showa rear shock absorber with a revised suspension linkage.

The front forks are 22-way adjustable for compression damping and 20-way adjustable for rebound damping, and offer 300mm of travel.

Suzuki claims razor-sharp handling from its pocket warrior and equally sharp stopping power from the front and rear disc brakes with wave rotors, optimising cooling performance and mud deflection.

Lastly, the RM-Z250 features a textured seat (for grip) and Renthal tapered aluminium handlebars.

A new look, with black and yellow plastics offset by red, black and white graphics, distinguishes the 2010 machine.

The 2010 Suzuki RM-Z250 is available across Australia now, priced from $10,690 (before on-road costs).
