In a similar way to Hummer using young design talent to create their HX concept, Maserati have tapped into the well of rising talent and handed the design work for their Chicane Concept over to some design students from the European Institute of Design in Turin.

The fruit of their labours will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in early March this year and as you can see from the illustration the Chicane Concept should attract plenty of attention, with its combination of hard edges and organic flowing lines.

The Chicane Concept is a 2+2 coupe, one size under the current Quattraporte and GranTurismo and like its bigger brothers, is V8 powered and rear-wheel-drive. One can’t help but wonder if the Chicane is a taste of Maserati’s future – are they planning the production of a smaller Maserati sportscar?

The Chicane is not the only student design project that Maserati are running. Another concept dubbed the Maserati Challenge is a 2+1 shooting brake (station wagon) design, that includes enough room in the back for bulky sporting eqpment...something like a set of golf clubs.

A video detailing the Chicane concept will be shown alongside the Chicane at the Geneva Motor Show.
