F1: Team USF1 Considering Danica Patrick For 2010 Seat

TEAM USF1 could be set to inject some added glamour into Formula 1 after co-founder Peter Windsor revealed the outfit is considering signing IndyCar star Danica Patrick.

With USF1 set to be based out of Charlotte, North Carolina, home of NASCAR, Windsor is keen for the team to be a true representative of the country’s motor racing scene.

Central to the strategy is the hiring of an All-American driver line-up, with Windsor revealing that he and team partner Ken Anderson are evaluating the possibility of handing Patrick a seat, who would be the sixth woman ever to compete in F1.

Despite the marketing potential Patrick would bring to the team, Windsor said the decision to consider the former IndyCar Rookie of the Year as a potential option lies in her status as the category’s premier US driver.

“There are some very good young Americans out there, and we will be making a decision about that pretty soon. Danica is on our list for sure, because she’s the best-placed American in the leading single-seater championship of the United States. She’s doing a really great job,” he said to the BBC.

Patrick has previously expressed interest in entering the world of Formula 1, claiming she was an avid follower of the sport during her time spent in Europe earlier in the decade.

She told the Daily Mirror last year: “During my three years in England, I followed Formula 1 closely and became dead set on racing in it.

“F1 is regarded as the highest level of racing with the best drivers in the world, and it’s very flattering to have that as an opportunity.”

The 27-year old though could face a battle for a seat with the F1 newcomers as the team are also on the tail of Marco Andretti, Graham Rahal A.J Allmendinger and Scott Speed.

Andretti is considered favourite for the drive after impressing for Team USA in the A1GP championship and Andretti-Green racing in IndyCar, while he previously tested for the now defunct Honda F1.
