THIS YEAR’S GOODWOOD Festival of Speed is shaping up to be a good one for performance car enthusiasts. Not only will the Vauxhall Insignia VXR sports sedan be making its debut at the historic hillclimb, but the stunning GTbyCitroën supercar concept will also be taking to the tarmac to display its sumptuous body in motion.

It gets better. Infiniti has today announced that its Essence concept is also slated to appear at Goodwood, and it won’t be just another static display either.

No, Infiniti will be putting the Essence on the Goodwood’s famous hillclimb track and showing the crowds how it moves. The concept purportedly makes use of a 323kW twin-turbocharged 3.7 litre V6 and a 117kW electric motor which, with 441kW of combined power - should give the curvaceous concept a serious turn of speed.

Given the Essence’s one-off status, it’s doubtful that Infiniti will call upon all that power during the car’s Goodwood outing. Regardless, it should still be fascinating to see how the long-nosed supercoupe looks at speed.

Sadly, there are presently no plans to bring the Essence to production, which means Goodwood is probably the last chance most will get to see it move under its own power. However, for something a little more showroom-ready, Infiniti will also be displaying its brand-new G37 Convertible.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed starts on July 3 and ends on July 5.
