Top Gear Australia Season Two: Episode Six Bounces Back

Top Gear Australia Season Two

SIX DOWN, two to go. We’re now three-quarters of the way through season two of Top Gear Australia, and finally the show seems to have arrested its ratings slide.

Monday’s episode drew in 550,000 viewers and ranked 31 nationally - a moderate improvement over last week’s 545,000 viewers and number 32 ranking.

It’s not an enormous resurgence in popularity for the troubled cousin of the ever-popular Top Gear UK, but given every episode thus far has managed to draw in fewer viewers than the one preceding it, this week’s result can only be seen as good.

So what did those extra five thousand people tune in to see? Well, there was a Pontiac G8 GXP test drive, a Nissan 370Z test drive and a bizarre competition that resulted in a Toyota Hilux being converted into the world’s most unnecessary ride-on lawnmower.

Office scuttlebutt suggests that TGA’s somewhat poorly-conceived challenges are the primary reason why people are tuning out, and with the G8 GXP being a car that’s not long for this world that pretty much leaves the 370Z as episode six’s major drawcard.

But will ratings improve any further next episode? Here’s what’s in store: a dual 4×4 off-road test, a far more ridiculous Fiat 500/smart fortwo offroad challenge and an image perception experiment that would be more at home on Catalyst. Compelling television? We’ll find out next week.

Worst one yet! A complete shocker of an episode. Even as a complete petrolhead, i’m not sure i’ll tune in next week. I’ll probably watch some cartoons with my kids - at least there’ll be more chance of actually laughing!

They need to sack whoever is giving them advice about how to talk to a camera! I feel like i’m a schoolkid and the teacher’s talking to me. Grrrrrrr!!!

Bad show, really bad show, hurry up and axe its, its embarrassing.

Well, I think it’s a good laugh. Though I don’t care for 4×4s, I enjoy watching comparisons of them, so I look forward to that.

13 episodes, 6 Commodore reviews.

I only watched it, so that the STIG still has a job for the remaining 2 episodes…

PS, i reckon TMR could do a better job!

Yeah, why don’t we see any videos from TMR? C’mon guys, give the fans what they want!

Ask and ye shall receive.

We do have our first video on the way shortly folks, keep an eye out for our upcoming Passat CC video review, the final cut is expected any day now…

Then, if we are not run out of town or stoned we will dabble in a few more.

Yay! Passat CC review. Looking forward to it. We’ll lobby for TGTMR to replace TGAUS if you’re any good :)

How many weeks ’til the real TG gets back on air so I can tune in again?

This is a shocker, though I am glad they got rid of that twit who sounded like he swallowed gravel. I actually don’t mind the trumpet guy….

I recorded this weeks but when I sat down to watch it I ended up skipping through 90% of it. The 370Z review was alright to start but even that got boring towards the end.

Will still watch the last 2 eps but not keeping my hopes high for a decent watch.

Enough with the bush banger bogan mobile tests. We get and we arent interested. Australians have moved on from being bogans. We demand more. We live in a global community now, we travel and we learn from what is going on overseas. Stop feeding us this rubish TG Aus. We are also not interested in electric fuel efficient gizmo or cars, F@#$% O@# with that stuff Please! We want performance cars, reviews, track tests, sliding and all the fin stuff about driving PERFORAMNCE! cars, not rubish! The guys hosting the show wouldnt even know how to change a tyre let alone drive cars the way they were intended to be driven. What a trumpet blower? an ABC comic drawing nerd who would rather catch a bus than drive, and a skinny (let me grow facial hair to seem more serious) little rat that is so boring in his mono tone passionless voice. Yes TG Aus got it right with those hosts didnt they, NOT! Get some real people, who have passion about cars (not the media) and are funny to host the show with plenty of politically INCORRECT satire to match. This is why we watch TG UK and not the Australian version rubbish.

Please somebody put this show out of its misery and give it the axe.

“Please somebody put this show out of its misery and give it the axe”

All those in favour, say AYE……….

A Y Y EEEE
A A Y Y E
AAAA Y EEE
A A Y E
A A Y EEEE

haha what a lame show.. i hope these hosts never appear on tv again.. unless its 20-1’s “Worst australian shows”

Where are the car tests and comparo’s that we as Aussies want to see but can’t on the programs from OS? I want more of the testing that we saw when the Soft Roaders went to the sand and ice, not that I’m interested in soft roaders, but how about Calais V vs G6ET vs BMW 5 vs Benz E or Luxury SUV’s (inc Territory). etc etc etc. The crappy challenges are just lame!

I agree Mazza, lets have more comparisons that we wouldn’t see anywhere else- Aussie cars to overseas cars.

I think the show is quite good and getting better. It will never be top gear UK and its best to not try either.
Its a shame there’s so many negative comments here when the show isn’t ‘that’ bad.
