Not since the mid 1960’s has Volkswagen enjoyed its current level of sales in Australia. VW managed to move 27,400 new vehicles in 2007, including passenger and commercial vehicles, in a sign of Australia’s continuing love affair with imported vehicles.

This level of sales was enough to see Volkswagen finish 2007 as the 10th highest selling brand, in a year that saw their sales increase by more than 27 percent over those of 2006. The slowly increasing acceptance of diesel powered cars by the Australian market place, played its role in the increasing popularity of Volkswagen’s product.

"The fact we offer diesel engines throughout the passenger and commercial vehicle range has given us a significant point of difference in the market place. Also, the introduction of TSI technology has seen strong market acceptance of this new engine in the Golf GT Sport,” said Mrs Jutta Dierks, Managing Director - Volkswagen Group Australia.

Several models throughout the Volkswagen range performed well with significant increases over the prior year. Sales of the Passat were up 111.9 percent, the Touareg was up by 51.1 percent, the Jetta by 30.9 percent, the Caddy Life/Camper up by 105.3 percent, the Transporter up by 14.5 percent and sales of the Caddy were up by 13.6 percent.

The Golf continued to be Volkswagen Australia’s best selling model with 10,982 finding new homes, an increase of 13.8 percent over 2006, while 1436 Eos deliveries ensured it achieved number one spot for the year in its market segment.
