We’ve barely had enough time to get used to Chris Gubbey taking the reins at GM Holden to find out today that he’s leaving for a new post. Rick Wagoner, Chairman and CEO of GM confirmed in a press release issued today that Gubbey, the current chairman and managing director of GM Holden Ltd is being appointed GM Europe vice president and managing director, GM Russia and CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States), effective February 1.

Gubbey 51, will succeed Warren P. Brown, 56, who is moving on to a new role as the executive director, GM Europe business development, where he will oversee GM’s growth strategy for Turkey.

“Russia is quickly becoming one of the largest car markets in the world, and GM achieved the number one position among non-domestic manufacturers with sales of more than 250,000 units. In his new role, Gubbey will continue to drive our expansion in this vital high growth market,” said Wagoner.

Gubbey is essentially being pinched from his Australian position as he is experienced in working within developing markets and GM require his unique skill set in Russia.

Gubbey’s role at GM Holden Ltd will be filled by Mark Reuss, 44. Reuss is currently executive director, global vehicle integration, safety and virtual vehicle development but come February 1 will be appointed GM Asia Pacific vice president and president and managing director, GM Holden Ltd.

“The appointment of these accomplished executives signifies GM’s continuing commitment to aggressive expansion in key growing markets around the world,” said Wagoner.

Ironically, Rick Wagoner is the top dog but has the shortest title...
