Ford confirms new RWD platform

It’s been rumoured for a while now and according to Automotive News, Ford have finally confirmed that they are planning a new RWD platform for their North American Ford and Lincoln brands.

Ford’s Global Product Chief, Derrick Kuzak was reluctant to provide much in the way of detail but did confirm that Ford were proceeding with the development of a rear-wheel-drive platform.

“Yes, we’re working on a rear-wheel-drive plan for the enterprise, it’s in the plan,” said Kuzak

The good news for Ford’s Australian outpost is that the new RWD platform will be developed by them in Australia, suggesting the recent rumours about Ford Oz becoming the rear-wheel-drive development centre for Ford globally are accurate. It would be reasonable to assume that the new RWD platform will be a development of the excellent one currently underpinning the Falcon in Australia.
