THE CITROEN DS3 hatch concept was unveiled back in February, with a view of the concept’s interior offered later in May.

This week, Citroen has revealed the production version of the 2010 Citroen DS3, and, minus a few aesthetic details, it is largely identical to the concept.

Demonstrating the premium market intentions of the DS range, the interior of the DS3 features a largely black dash with a gloss white panel running along its length. (The ‘DS’ pattern of the concept is noticeably absent.)

Deep gloss red buttons sit either side of a multi-function display, above a simple but stylish centre-stack finished in the same glossy piano-black.

Behind the chrome-trimmed steering wheel sits an instrument cluster made up of one large chrome-ringed speedometer in the centre, flanked on either side by elliptical rings featuring the usual displays.

For support and longevity’s sake, the watch-band like stitching pattern of the concept’s seats gives away to a more conventional style.

Outside, the styling of the production DS3 is virtually identical to that of the concept, with only slightly smaller wheels the real difference.

A new close-up view of the top of the DS3 shows that while the ‘DS’ pattern of the concept has been dropped, a unique approach to the roof’s style remains a focus.

Ignoring the classic Citroen chevron grille, the badging on the front and rear of the DS3 is made up of the DS logo, rather than the Citroen corporate identity.

Along with these images, Citroen has revealed a wealth of technical details on the upcoming first model in the new DS range.

The 2010 Citroen DS3 will be available in Europe with two 82kW and 67kW diesel engines, along with three petrol engines producing 111kW, 89kW and 71kW.

The diesel and petrol engines will be paired with either a five- or six-speed manual transmission.

Citroen has worked to keep the DS3 to a strict minimum weight (although no specific details are available) while ensuring a robust and strong chassis.

TMR put in a call to Citroen Australia Public Relations Manager Edward Rowe, who confirmed that the DS3 will appear in Australia next year.

“We expect to offer the Citroen DS3 - along with the rest of the DS range - by the end of next year, following its European release earlier in the year.”

That is one great looking car…also really digging the layout of the dashboard.

First glance I thought it was another Mini. Looks great

I love it, can’t wait to see it in the flesh. How good is it to see a great styled car that’s not the boring ’safe’ (not accident safe, sellable safe) designs that are out there. Good work.

the DS3 concept has been officially confirmed to arrive these upcoming year. With its style it seems it will become one of the nicest car ever. Initially it has a dual fan clutch transmission that contributes for being having fuel efficient.
