It was only recently that we showed you the Mazdaspeed Atenza (Mazda6) Concept, due for a Tokyo Auto Salon release, at the time rumoured to be the new Mazda6 MPS, although that now seems unlikely. Following hot on the heels of the Mazdaspeed Atenza Concept is it’s little brother, the Mazdaspeed Demio concept. Also due for a Tokyo Auto Salon unveiling, the jazzed up Demio (Mazda2 in Australia) features a full Mazdaspeed body kit that includes new bumpers, skirts, spoiler and inserts.

Mechanical changes are not known at this stage but it would be fair to assume that the suspension has come in for some attention, resulting in a lowered ride height and overall more aggressive look. Mazdaspeed alloy wheels feature along with a suitable large set of upgraded brakes.

The interior features an “in your face” two tone theme, along with sports bucket seats and various trim pieces to raise the ambience a notch. The concept is fitted with an automatic transmission, which hopefully isn’t a reason to assume that the engine remains standard, as a few added horsepower would make the expensive looking brakes seem like a more worthwhile addition. There is no word on the likelihood of a production version or indeed if we are likely to see a Mazda2 MPS in Australia...yet.
