MG to benefit from merger of Nanjing and SAIC

The rebirth of the MG brand via Chinese manufacturer Nanjing Auto has not proceeded quite too plan with Nanjing struggling to meet the high quality standards that they have set for themselves. A number of prototype MG TF Roadsters have been built but full scale production has not yet become a reality, and the scene has changed yet again with Nanjing Auto having been taken over by SAIC Motor Corporation, another Chinese manufacturer.

The good news for Nanjing and MG fans in particular is that SAIC plan to push ahead with MG production and will also be using MG’s old Longbridge production facility as a base for its British R&D centre, one of the first steps in SAIC’s push to enter the European market.

SAIC are currently GM’s production partner in China and as such have a proven track record when it comes to bringing product to market, so where Nanjing were struggling, it is hoped that SAIC can ultimately succeed, without sacrificing quality. An MG, built by the Chinese in Britain could be a reality over the next couple of years.
