2008 SLK55 AMG facelift

Just prior to Christmas we showed you the official images and provided some of the details concerning the facelifted 2008 Mercedes SLK range. At the time the only mention of the SLK55 AMG version was that the same supercharged 5.5-litre V8 used in the outgoing model was being carried over, unchanged – not that it needs more power.

The changes made by AMG appear to be largely cosmetic as you can see in the images. The largely revised and more Formula 1’ish front bumper that the “standard” non-AMG four and six-cylinder models have inherited in the facelift have been slung over the right shoulders of the folks at AMG and an altogether more menacing and purposeful unit clipped into place.

The front headlights continue the menacing theme, having been “smoked” along with the otherwise clear section in the new style rear taillights. The rear bumper is an AMG exclusive unit and includes accommodation for quad round exhaust outlets.

Nothing massive in the way of change for the 2008 SLK55 AMG, with the mad combination of a small(ish) body and large supercharged V8 engine providing the same insane thrills as the previous model. Dress it anyway you like, the SLK55 is a rocket sled in the “old-skool” big-cube kinda way.
