IF THIS ridiculously tweaked 2010 Volkswagen Golf GTI is anything to go by, the future of the automotive mechanical trades is in very, very good hands.

As part of its offerings at the recent Worthersee GTI meet in Germany, Volkswagen tapped four of its young apprentices, aged 19 to 22, to get their tools out and create the most monstrous GTI concept they could manage.

It’s safe to say, they didn’t disappoint.

Over the course of three months, The Apprentices (looks better with capital letters, right?) turned a standard Golf VI GTI into the beast we see here.

Utilising the same 2.0 litre TFSI turbo engine beating beneath the bonnet of the regular GTI, the lads boosted power from 155kW up to a whopping 221kW, making its way to the blacktop through a six-speed transmission.

The Golf GTI Street sits on 19-inch alloy rims, shod with 225/35 Pirelli tyres, while braking comes from the range-topping Golf of the previous generation, the R32.

Lowered on coilover suspension, the Golf GTI Street concept also features hydraulic ride height adjustment to get you over those nasty speed humps.

The car was unveiled alongside the 2009 Golf GTI and Polo GTI Worthersee 09 Concepts, and while those two were purely aesthetic projects, it’s clear that the Golf GTI Street is where the real magic is.
